2021-12-06 RAC Minutes Minutes of the Recreation Advisory Committee held on December 6, 2021. Members present: Jennifer Baumann Sandra Carro Silvia Clarke Christian Dunham John Ise Gayle Mercado Sheryl Piper Jens Schwarte Members absent: Natasha White Also present: Jacquelyn Villagran, Recreation Superintendent Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. Ms. Carro made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 1, 2021 meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Mercado and unanimously approved. It was related that there was a good turnout for the Doggie Dip at the aquatic center. The Menorah Lighting was also well received with approximately 200 in attendance. It was noted that the 3K and Tree Lighting was a success, with 350 prereg istered for the 3K. A suggestion was made to start the event earlier in the future. Upcoming events in December include Plaza 98 Sip Shop Celebrate and the Santa Express. Unity Day is being planned, which will be combined with a celebration of the 90 th anniversary of Miami Shores Village, including fireworks. Mr. Ise suggested a calendar of events, noting that there are many events not directly related to Miami Shores Village that should be posted such as the St. Rose Carnival. Mr. Schwarte suggested having an annual pass for Wild Waters. Ms. Villagran noted that weekends were at capacity each session at Wild Waters this summer. Mr. Ise noted that the Committee is in favor of a kayak launch but not at any specific development project. Mr. Ise noted his daughter is pursuing a goal award for the girl scouts by creating a flag retirement drop box to retire flags; namely, a mailbox to drop off flags and then the scouts will properly retire them. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
