2016-12-05 RAC Minutes Minutes of the Recreation Advisory Committee held on December 5, 2016. Members Present: Anna Blackman Dan Brady Lauren Cortinas Manny Hadad Jonathan Meltz Jacqueline O'Donnell Karen Smith-Gulaskey Steven Weber Felipe Villamizar Members Absent: Michelle Saporiti Also Present: Angela Dorney, Recreation Director, Interim Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. Mr. Brady made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 7, 2016, meeting. Motion seconded by Mr. Hadad and unanimously approved. At this time Ms. Dorney gave a summary of the recreation programs. At this time there are 89 registered for Winterbreak camp. Baseball registration has begun. There are 13 enrolled in the super soccer stars’ program and 72 enrolled in aftercare. Ms. Dorney related that 221 people ran the 5K race; 101 people registered during the week leading up to the race. This year there was $8770 in sponsorships and $7381 in costs for the race. It was related that 700 wristbands were sold for Winterfest and $4200 was generated in revenue. There will be additional inflatables next year. Mr. Brady discussed Miami Shores joining Miami Dade County’s Aging Friendly Initiative. Mr. Brady would like the community to be ‘aging friendly’. Committee members said that there needs to be enforcement in regards to nonresident usage on the recreation fields. Mr. Meltz announced that the Miami Shores Chamber’s citizen of the year will be given to two recipients, Jerry Estep and Susan Dombrowsky. The date will be either February 9 or 10. One of the members noted that the swings at the tot lot are loud and that the gate at the tot lot now swings in to open. A card access system at the tot lot is being considered. R.A.C. mtg., 12/5/16, pg. 2 of 2 Mr. Villamizar would like to see a summary of each of the recreation programs and the number of residents/nonresidents in the program. During public comment it was related that the 5K event was great and members would like to see more activities for adults and seniors. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
