2018-04-02 RAC Minutes Minutes of the Recreation Advisory Committee held on April 2, 2018. Members present: Jeff Geimer Manny Hadad Jacqueline O'Donnell Karen Smith-Gulaskey Steven Weber Members absent: Anna Blackman Michael O'Hara Alise Henry Michele Saporiti The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Mr. Weber made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 5, 2018 meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Gulaskey and unanimously approved. Discussion turned to the new recreation center. Mr. Hadad's presentation was well received by Council. It was related that Council would like to see community support before any further discussion. Ms. O'Donnell feels the issue should be tabled for a year before further discussion. Mr. Geimer would like to view the video of the Council meeting and discuss it at the May meeting. Mr. Weber noted that a motion has been put forth previously to leave the recreation center as a monthly agenda item and unless a new motion is submitted stating otherwise, the recreation center should be left on the agenda. Ms. Gulaskey asked about an existing database for surveys, similar to survey monkey, in Miami Shores. Mr. Weber noted that unless the Council specifically said not to have further discussion, a new recreation center should still be discussed. It was suggested that all the Committee members watch the Council meeting with discussion at the May meeting. Ms. Dorney noted that a purchase order has been submitted for two new apparatus at the Tot Lot. Mr. Hadad related that there is a Village ordinance prohibiting cleats on the athletic fields. Mr. Hadad also inquired about surveillance/monitoring at the tot lot and for usage on the athletic fields. Mr. Hadad suggested installing a fence around the recreation fields to monitor usage. Ms. Dorney related that a fence is being installed on both sides of the maintenance shed. Ms. Dorney also said one of the capital requests is irrigation at Constitution Park. Ms. Dorney related that last weekend 20 Bay Harbor Island residents visited the aquatic center. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
