Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission held on May 9, 2017.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
Commission members toured the Village looking at possible sites for a future art in
public places location.
Ms. Brachos-Mijares made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2017
meeting. Motion approved by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved.
It was noted that the music education series needs to be a little longer in length. Mr.
Stock said he would have like to have drawn a younger audience.
Mr. Rojas suggested having a banner straddling both sides of 2nd Avenue to draw
attention to events.
There was a suggestion about a pop up park on 98th Street and 2nd Avenue; movies
could be shown on the south side of the MTC building once a month.
Discussion turned to the Memorial Day service. It was explained that service
organizations make monetary donations to the library and in return the Library selects a
book representative of the organization. Ms. Rojas made a motion to approve
spending $50 for a Memorial Day donation. Motion seconded by Mr. Bruce and
unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the FY 2018 budget request. Ms. Ackley has worked with Ms.
Dorney and submitted a request for $10,000, which would enable the Commission to
pay for an additional concert.
It was suggested that the up lighting on the mural wall be taken out of the remaining FY
2017 budget and use the donation account if additional funds are needed.

Ms. Ackley related that Commissioner Edmonson will not be able to fund the requested
$4000 since funds for the year have already been allocated.
Ms. Ackley said that the Commission has received a $5000 grant from the Miami
Shores Community Alliance for art in public places, with the new location to be
approved by the Village Council.
The Commission toured possible art in public places sites before the meeting and have
prioritized the locations. The number one location is Park Drive and 6th Avenue,
number two is Bayfront Park, number three is 6th Avenue and 98th Street and number
four is 4th Avenue Road and 98th Street.
Ms. Rojas suggested zero scape at Constitution Park and have the art in public places
in the triangular area.
It was noted that June 20th is the tentative date to present the art in public places sites
to Council. Mr. Bruce and Ms. Bracho-Mijares will create a presentation. It was
suggested having two renderings with two different types of sculptures. Ms. Ackley
suggested having a May 25th subcommittee meeting to brainstorm the design for the
presentation.
Discussion turned to the October library exhibit featuring Alberto Cavalieri. Mr. Cavalieri
will be exhibiting two large pieces on pedestals, five small pieces on pedestals and
three paintings on the main wall.
