2015-09-15 FAC Minutes Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission held on September 15, 2015. Members Present: Susan Ackley Victor Bruce Janet Goodman Alan Poppe Miryam Rojas Michael Stock Members Absent: Neil Kodsi Also Present: Jerry Estep, Recreation Director Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Correction to the minutes of the August 18, 2015 meeting; page two, paragraph four, line four; ‘change spelling of Lezama to Lizama’. Mr. Stock made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 18, 2015 meeting with corrections and the minutes of the September 1, 2015 meeting. Motion seconded by Mr. Poppe and unanimously approved. The Commission has $1902 remaining in the FY 2015 budget, with $619 earmarked for the Egret ad and $1200 for copies for the OPP exhibit. Discussion turned to the OPP exhibit. Some of the photos include the history of the Shores and zoning maps. It was suggested that Seth Bramson give a brief talk on the exhibit and Mr. Bruce will follow up with an explanation on the compilation of the photos exhibited. Mr. Stock offered to compile music to play during the event. It was related that Ms. Ackley and Kaylan (glass illustrations) will meet with the library board in October to discuss his art exhibit. Sean Dibble has agreed to perform a drumming intro to the camp fire event in February for $240. It was noted that the Village’s sound equipment is becoming an issue with performers. A suggestion was made to hire a sound engineer run the equipment, but this can become pricey. An amp is needed for the monitors at a cost of $500-800. Ms. Rojas suggested purchasing an amp now. Ms. Rojas made a motion to investigate the amp needs for the monitor for the existing sound system with a budget of up to $1000. Motion seconded by Ms. Goodman and unanimously approved. Mr. Poppe suggested posting inquiries for a sound engineer on the Commission’s Facebook page. Options for the camp fire entertainment include Chloe Dolandis, the Mann Sisters and Jack & Diane. Mr. Poppe made a motion to approve Chloe Dolandis for the camp fire concert for $500. Motion seconded by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved. The location for the event is still uncertain. A suggestion was made for food trucks at the event. F.A.C. mtg., 9/15/15, pg. 2 of 2 Ms. Ackley and Ms. Rojas offered to speak to Mr. Benton to request permission for food trucks since they are prohibited in the city ordinance. The Miami Shores Community Alliance is having a brunch on November 1 and it was suggested that the Commission members could support the Alliance by purchasing a table for the brunch. Mr. Stock made a motion to hire Jack Shawde and Diane Ward to perform at the spring concert for $1500, which includes a sound technician for their five person band on April 10, 2016. Motion seconded by Ms. Goodman and unanimously approved. It was noted that Sean Dibble can perform a drum circle at Unity Day for $450. For one hour a group of 20 people would cost $220. Mr. Stock envisions Sean Dibble playing continuously with people coming and joining him on drums. Ms. Ackley suggested asking for (3) half hour sessions for $300. Mr. Stock made a motion to request Sean Dibble to play (3) half hour segments for $300. Motion seconded by Ms. Goodman and unanimously approved. In discussing Latino 500, the tentative date for the Latin art exhibit at the library will be April 22, 2016. Discussion turned to the Art Basal tour. The tentative date is December 5. Art Encounter is the group that would arrange the tour. Included in the $85 fee is a guided tour, transportation and entrance to Art Basal. The minimum number of people is 15. A suggestion was made to put a 6 unit ad in the Egret at a cost of $489. Mr. Bruce suggested charging people a little extra and the Commission could keep the difference to offset advertising costs. The Egret deadline is October 15. Mr. Poppe made a motion to form of a subcommittee with Ms. Ackley and Ms. Goodman to discuss the merits of an Art Basal tour with Art Encounter. Motion seconded by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
