R-0826-88 0 RESOLUTION NO. 826-88 RESOLUTION CALLING FOR SPECIAL ELECTION ON MARCH 8, 1988, TO DETERMINE IF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE SHALL BE AUTHORIZED TO MAKE CONTRIBUTION TO THE VILLAGE PENSION FUND IN EXCESS OF ONE (1) MILL ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY IN THE VILLAGE. WHEREAS, Miami Shores Village has heretofore entered into a bargaining agreement with employees of Miami Shores Village, which agreement will require contributions by the Village in excess of one (1) mill of the taxable property in the Village and therefore being subject to approval by the electorate of Miami Shores Village in accordance with the provisions of Section 18-54 (b) of the Code of Ordinances of Miami Shores Village, Florida, and WHEREAS, the Miami Shores Village Council is desirous of obtaining the required approval of the electorate of Miami Shores in order to comply with the terms of said bargaining agreement, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of Miami Shores Village, Florida: Section 1. In accordance with the requirements of Section 18-54 (b) of the Code of Ordinances of Miami Shores Village, a special election is hereby called and should be held in Miami Shores Village on Tuesday, March 8, 1988, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of Miami Shores Village, Florida, the question of approval of the increase of pension contribution to the Village Pension Fund in excess of One (1) Mill on all taxable property in the Village according to the next preceding assessment. Section 2. The result of such special election shall be determined by a majority of the qualified electors of Miami Shores Village, Florida, in accordance with the provisions of the general election law. Voting devices authorized and approved by the laws of the State of Florida and Dade County shall be used in such election, and the question which shall appear on the voting ballot shall be substantially in the following form: PROPOSAL TO AUTHORIZE VILLAGE PENSION CONTRIBUTION IN EXCESS OF ONE (1) MILL Shall Miami Shores Village be authorized to increase Village contributions to the Village Pension Fund in excess of one (1) mill on all taxable property in the Village according to the next preceding assessment? 1� Section 3. Those qualified electors desiring to approve such amendment shall be instructed to make the required perforation indicating a "Yes" vote and those qualified electors desiring to reject such proposed amendment shall be instructed to make the required perforation indicating a "No" vote. Section 4. A sample ballot, showing the manner in which the question or proposal aforesaid shall appear on the voting devices at the special election, shall be published and provided in accordance with the applicable provisions of the general election laws. Section 5. The special election on the proposed ordinance amendment shall be held and conducted in accordance with the applic- able provisions of the general laws relating to special elections and the Charter of Miami Shores Village. All officials involved in said proceedings are hereby authorized and directed to take appropriate action necessary to carry into effect and accomplish the provisions of this resolution. Election inspection boards, inspectors and clerks to service election officials shall be appointed in accordance with the provisions of the general election laws and this special election shall be canvassed in accordance with the laws provided therefore.
