R-0824-87 RESOLUTION NO. 824-87
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DADE COUNTY LEAGUE OF CITIES
AND THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES TO WORK FOR MODIFICATION
OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM BY DEFINING MUGGINGS AND PURSE-
SNATCHINGS AS FELONIES AND REQUIRING MANDATORY MINIMUM
SENTENCES THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, under the Florida Statutes, as they presently
exist, many muggings and purse-snatchings are defined as
misdemeanors rather than the more serious offense defined as
a felony, and
WHEREAS, the present failure to inflict significant
punishment upon those persons convicted of the crimes of mugging
and purse--snatching does,in fact, result in the perception that
the present criminal justice system results in a "revolving
door" operation which allows the perpetrators of such serious
crimes to return to the streets soon after their arrest and
r
conviction, now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Miami Shores Village as
follows:
Section 1. The Miami Shores Village Council hereby
respectfully calls upon the Dade County League of Cities and

and purse-snatching will be, in fact, treated as a felony,
without exception, and with strong mandatory minimum sentences
to be imposed:
Section 2. The Miami Shores Village Council hereby
finds that a modification --)f the criminal justice system of the
State of Florida is necessary to protect the citizens of this
