RESOLUTION NO. 769-84
A RESOLUTION CREATING AN ADVISORY BOARD ON HANDI-
CAPPED SERVICES, ESTABLISHING ITS MEMBERSHIP AND
FIXING ITS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
WHEREAS, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 sets
forth a number of requirements concerning handicapped discrimination and;
WHEREAS, Miami Shores Village wishes to assist our handicapped
citizens wherever possible;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that there is hereby created
an Advisory Board on Handicapped Services, as follows:
Section 1. The Board shall consist of five (5) members
appointed by the VillageCouncil who shall
serve for two years, except that when the
Board is first appointed two members shall be
appointed for a one-year term and three
members for a two-year term. Members may be
re-appointed.
Section 2. The Board shall be charged with assisting in the
implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilita-
tion Act of 1973. Toward that end it shall :
a) Assist in preparation of a "Self-Evaluation
Transition Plan" , as required by Section 504.
This plan shall be completed and submitted
to the Village Council by September 18, 1984.
b) Serve as a sounding board for grievances
concerning handicapped discrimination in
and by the Village and advise the Village
Manager on 'the resolutions of these grievances.
c) The Board shall provide such other advice on
handicapped matters to the Village Manager
as it deems appropriate.
Section 3. The Advisory Board on Handicapped Services shall
annually elect a chairman from among its members.
The chairman may be re-elected.
Section 4. The Board shall meet at the call of the chairman.
The meetings shall be announced in the Village
Bulletin. The Village shall provide secretarial
assistance in the preparation of minutes of each
ti
meeting. The Recreation Director who is
assigned to coordinate Village efforts to comply
with Section 504 shall attend all meetings.
Section 5. The Advisory Board on Handicapped Services shall
replace the Advisory Committee on the Disabled
set up by Resolution No. 593.
Section 6. Each member shall hold office until his successor
has been duly appointed, except when removed by
the Village Council and any member may be removed
at any time by a majority vote of the Village Council .
