R-0650-78 RESOLUTION NO.65O-78 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. WHEREAS, good public schools are essential as vital training grounds for civic and economic participation in our democratic society and to the well being of every community, and WHEREAS, Dade County and the State of Florida are below the national average according to the Stanford Achievement Test Scores, and WHEREAS, over the past several years the Scholastic Aptitude Test Scores for Dade County students have been declining, and WHEREAS, businesses and industries are relying on skilled graduates from our high schools to fill vacant positions, and WHEREAS, property values are dependent upon the calibre of public schools, and WHEREAS, demands for new schools would diminish if we could properly maintain the existing schools, and WHEREAS, it has been necessary for the Dade County School Board to eliminate or curtail vital programs and services in the past, and WHEREAS, the Dade County School Board sends more money to the State of Florida than is returned by the State; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Miami Shores Village Council urges the Florida Legislature to return to Dade County a greater proportion of the funds we send to the State of Florida.
