R-546-73 RESOLUTION NO. 546 A RESOLUTION OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL OPPOSING MANDATORY MILLAGE ROLLBACK WHEREAS, there have been several proposals and bills introduced in the current session of the Florida Legislature which would require municipalities to rollback their ad valorem tax millages to off- set any increases in assessment values of taxable property; and WHEREAS, such action would be another step in eroding the concept of local self-government by restricting the free action of duly elected municipal officials in the performance of their duties; and WHEREAS, it is the obligation of municipal officials to pro- vide increasing municipal services to their electors despite rising costs and a mandatory rollback would deprive municipalities of needed income with which to provide necessary services; and WHEREAS, because the Village is built up and has very little new construction and because we have been holding our millage down to 5. 5 mills we may very well not be able to cut our millage and come up with an acceptable budget for the coming year; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of Miami Shores Village, Florida: 1. That they hereby express their formal opposition to the passage of any legislation which would require mandatory millage rollbacks, as such restrictive legislation conflicts with the obliga- tion of municipalities to furnish local services demanded by municipal residents. Z. That the Village Manager is instructed to make such distribution of copies of this Resolution as will effectively publicize the Village's position on this subject. PASSED and ADOPTED this day of May, 1973. f.Yac.L ✓' L%ZfGG y r ATTEST: , Village Clerk
