R-526-71 RESOLUTION NO, 526
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
COUNCIL URGING THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN
FLORIDA FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT TO LOOK
WITH DISFAVOR ON THE BUILDING OF A BOAT LIFT
OVER THE DAM IN BISCAYNE CANAL LOCATED IN
THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE GOLF COURSE.
WHEREAS, the Central and Southern Florida Flood Control District
placed a darn in the Biscayne Canal located in the center of the Miami Shores
Village golf course approximately 9 years ago over the objections of Miami
Shores Village, necessitating the moving of greens and tees to accommodate
the structure and the canal widening, and
WHEREAS, residents with boat interests that objected then are again
requesting a boat lift over the dam which would seriously affect the operation
of the Miami Shores Village golf course, and
WHEREAS, if the boat lift were put into operation the safety of boaters
from golf balls would be in serious jeopardy because of the tees and fairways
in close proximity, and
WHEREAS, the bridge over the dam built for the golfers would be
lost and there would be no way to cross the canal at that point;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE, FLORIDA:
1. That the Central and Southern Florida Flood Control District
be urged to look with disfavor on the placing of a boat lift over the
Biscayne Canal dam in the center of the Miami Shores Village golf
course due to the many safety factors involved and the loss of the
golf course as it is presently laid out.
2. That copies of this resolution be sent to the Central and Southern
Florida Flood Control District and to the members of the Dade
County Commission.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of July, 1971.
