R-502-69 RESOLUTION NO. 502 A RESOLUTION URGING RETENTION OF INTERAMA LANDS FOR PUBLIC USE WHEREAS authority and responsibility for the Interama Authority was transferred this year from the State of Florida to Metropolitan Dade C ounty; and WHEREAS the Interama Authority, in its efforts to organize and develop the original concept of Interama, has incurred very substantial indebtedness, including a bonded indebtedness in the principal sum of eleven million dollars, which indebtedness operates to encumber approximately 1, 700 acres of water- front land lying north of Biscayne Bay; and WHEREAS many citizens and interested groups have advocated the sale to private interests of approximately 600 acres of this land to satisfy and dis- charge the above described indebtedness; and WHEREAS the Council of Miami Shores Village deems it essential to the best interests of its citizens, as well as of the citizens generally of Dade County and of the State of Florida, to retain these lands for the use and benefit of the public; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of Miami Shores Village, Dade County, Florida; That the Commissioners of Metropolitan Dade County, Florida, be encouraged and urged to take all steps reasonably necessary and proper to retain all of the above described Interama lands, for the public use and benefit of the people of Dade County and of the State of Florida, whether as an Interamerican Cultural and Trade Center or as the site for a public university, park, marina, recreational area or otherwise, and to find and utilize means, other than the sale of any part of said lands to private interests, to meet and satisfy the bonded indebtedness encumber- ing said lands and described above.
