RESOLUTION OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE URGING
THE DADE DELEGATION TO SUPPORT HOUSE BILL
2080 AND COMPANION SENATE BILL 1465 INCREAS-
ING CIGARETTE TAX BY 02� PER PACKAGE.
WHEREAS, House Bill 2080 introduced May 25, 1967 and Senate
Bill 1465 introduced June 2, 1967, provide for an increase in the cigarette
tax by 02� per package; and
WHEREAS, such taxes collected within municipalities will be
returned to such municipalities and that portion of the increased tax collected
in the unincorporated area will be returned to the County; and
WHEREAS, the municipalities are in great need of additional
sources of revenue due to the crippling limitations of FS 193. 03 and FS 193. 031
which have limited amounts to be obtained by ad valorem taxes; and
WHEREAS, there are pending in the Florida Legislature other
bills which would limit revenue from ad valorem taxes, and further increase
the need for additional revenue that would be provided by House Bill 2080 and
Senate Bill 1465.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE as follows:
Section 1. That it wholeheartedly endorses and supports the
passage of House Bill 2080 and Senate Bill 1465 and does hereby urge the
members of the Dade Delegation to support the passage of said bills.
Section 2. That copies of this Resolution be sent forthwith to
all members of the Dade Delegation and a copy hereof to the Florida League
of Municipalities.
