R-467-67 RESOLUTION NO. 467
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RESOLUTION
OF THE LIAISON COMMITTEE OF THE DADE
COUNTY COMMISSION AND DADE COUNTY
LEAGUE OF MUNICIPALITIES URGING MODIFI-
CATION OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES, SECTION
193. 031.
WHEREAS, a resolution of the Liaison Committee of the Dade
County Commission and the Dade County League of Municipalities passed
and adopted November 18, 1966 sets forth that such committee has given
careful consideration to Florida Statute 193. 031 and its application and
possible effect on the fiscal operations of the County and municipalities
within the County in future years; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the Committee, the application
of the statute in future taxing years may result in unrealistic and financi-
ally crippling limitations upon the County and municipalities in setting
ad valorem tax millages at levels sufficient to meet budgetary demands and
revenue; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the Committee the statute de-
prives the County and municipalities of self-government in fiscal affairs
and is contrary to the principles of local self-government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MIAMI
SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL:
That this Council, for itself and for its people, hereby does
express full and complete approval of the resolution of the Liaison Committee
of the Dade County Commission and Dade County League of Municipalities
urging modification of the Florida Statutes, Section 193. 031.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE Miami Shores Village
Council urgently requests all members of the Dade County Legislative
Delegation of the State of Florida to support the introduction and passage
of legislation modifying said statute to permit workable and realistic in-
creases in ad valorem tax millages to meet increasing costs of local govern-
ment and improved local services expected by residents of Miami Shores
Village.
