R-431-63 RESOLUTION NO. 431 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND ADVOCATING A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION TO PRESERVE BIBLE READING IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS ON A NON-SECTAR- IAN BASIS. WHEREAS, because of recent decisions of the United States Supreme Court, the teaching of religion in public schools and the reading of the Bible has been curtailed; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to express its opinion that the reading of the Bible in public schools should be per- mitted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA: Section 1. That by this resolution the Village Council of Miami Shores Village, Florida, hereby supports and advocates a con- stitutional amendment to the United States Constitution to preserve the right of Bible reading in public schools on a non-sectarian basis. Section 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to Senator Spessard Holland, Senator George Smathers, Congressman Dante Fascell and Congressman Claude Pepper.
