WHEREAS, One of Miami Shores Village's most precious and beautiful assets is that part of Biscayne Bay within the Village limits. For many years these beautiful waters of Biscayne Bay have been enjoyed by Village residents, other residents living in the area east of Miami Shores, Dade County residents, and thousands of visitors; and WHEREAS, during the past twenty years tremendous planning and expenditures have been made within Dade County for the movement of the increased motor vehicular traffic, hardly any attention has been given to the need for making Biscayne Bay larger and deeper for the expanding number of motor and sail boat enthusiasts; and WHEREAS, due to the shallow depth of these waters within Miami Shores, inboard power pleasure boats and, in particular, sailboats have been denied the use of most of these waters; and WHEREAS, the cost of deepening these waters to a minimum depth of five feet could probably be paid for in full by the sale of the fill which would be removed from the Bay area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Miami Shores request the Army Corps of Engineers to deepen that part of Biscayne Bay which lies wihin the Miami Shores Village limits to a depth of five feet; and further that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Dade County Commission requesting them to join in this petition; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this petition be sent to all cities north of Venetian Causeway whose land areas border on Biscayne Bay north to the Broward County line so that they may be encouraged to take similar action so that pleasure boats, both motor and sail, may enjoy all of beautiful Biscayne Bay.
