R-341-54 RESOLUTION NO. 341 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DADE COUNTY DELEGATION AT THE NEXT SESSION OF THE LEGIS- LATURE IN TALLAHASSEE TO SUPPORT LEGIS- LATION EFFECTING THE RETURN OF ONE CENT OF THE GASOLINE TAX TO MUNICIPALITIES WHEREAS, Miami Shores Village has many miles of streets and sidewalks within the Village which it must maintain and keep in repair at all times, which is quite a burden to the taxpayers; and WHEREAS, if one cent of the gasoline tax were returned to the Village, it would ease the burden of the taxpayers in keeping these many streets and sidewalks in repair; and WHEREAS, the cities I problem has been recognized in other states, such as the State of Tennessee, where legislation has been developed to return to the communities in the state one cent of their gasoline tax that is collected within the corporate limits; and WHEREAS, the cities are the service corporations having to furnish police and fire protection and trash and garbage service, as well as construct and maintain miles of streets and sidewalks; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the members of the Dade County Delegation be and they are hereby requested to support legislation at the next session of the legislature in Tallahassee which would return directly one cent of gasoline tax which is collected within the corporate limits of municipalities, with provision that such monies must be expended by the municipalities on city streets.
