FOR SOS FWRIDAe
WJDHW,p during periods of flood Florida coastal c®unities
receive runoff from the interior of the State& resulting in the flood-
ing of urban areas to an excessively damaging extent, as in 19479 and*
urban development of coastal Florida reflects to aceta
extent the development of the agricultural industry which is dependent on
the construction and operation of an adequate water control system, and.
SAS* such a complete water control system, including the con-
servation areas, would aid in the protection of coastal water supply from
intrusion of salt waters from the ocean, improving the supply of water
for both domestic and agricultural uses, and,
WMWAS9 additional benefits would accrue to the urban areas by
reason of a more constant water level west of the coastal ridge affecting
a moderation of extremes of temperature; the prevention of recurrent Glades
fires that blanket coastal communities with the noxious smoke of burning
peat soils; and promoting the return of South Florida's now seriously
depleted wildlife resource,
