O-380-74 ORDINANCE NO. 380 AN ORDINANCE PERMITTING THE INSTALLATION OF BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEMS FOR RESIDENTS OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE THAT WILL SIGNAL IN A SECURITY COM- PANY OR IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND PROVIDING PENALTIES IF NOT INSTALLED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, burglar alarm systems are being increasingly used by Miami Shores residents; and WHEREAS, it is necessary for one company to install an annunciator or panel and maintain it in the Police Department; and WHEREAS, burglar alarm systems can and frequently do sound false alarms which are a nuisance to the neighbors and a waste of time for the Police Department and possibly leave some area of the Village unprotected; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE: Section 1. A burglar alarm is defined as any devise which gives a signal on entry or attempted entry of real property or by pressing a button which sets off a signal either to a security company or in the Police station. Section 2. All burglar alarm systems installed in Miami Shores Village shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the codes of the Village and Dade County and be installed by certified and licensed security companies. Section 3. No burglar alarm system will be installed in the Village unless it contains a device which automatically shuts off the audible alarm signal after it has sounded for fifteen minutes. No burglar alarm system will be permitted to be in operating condition after 60 days from the effective date of this ordinance unless it has an automatic shut off. Section 4. The Village may contract with a security company to install and maintain exclusively a panel or annunciator system which mainten- ance cost will be paid by the subscribers. Section 5. The Village Manager may authorize the security company who has the contract for the panel or annunciator to disconnect any individual burglar alarm system that has excessive false alarms or that shows "trouble" for seven days or more. Section 6. The Village reserves the right to terminate any contract with a security company to install and maintain exclusively a panel or annunciator system at any time by giving 60 days' notice to the licensee. Section 7. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon becoming a law. PASSED on first reading this 4th day of June, 1974, PASSED and ADOPTED on the 18th day of June, 1974.
