AN ORDINANCE CALLING FOR AN ELECTION TO BE
HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE
VOTERS ORDINANCES RESPECTING THE ESTABLISH-
MENT OF PENSION AND INSURANCE FUNDS.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE:
Section 1. Pursuant to the authority conferred upon Miami
Shores Village by Chapter 27740, Laws of Florida, 1951, a special election
is hereby called to be held in said Village at the time hereinafter specified
for the purpose of having submitted to the freeholders in said Village the
following ordinances:
(a) An ordinance providing that the Council of Miami Shores
Village shall establish a fund for the relief or pension of persons in the
employ of said Village, and providing for the making of contributions of
public monies thereto on such terms and conditions as the Council may see fit.
(b) An ordinance authorizing the Village Council to make
such contracts of insurance with insurance companies authorized to do
business in the State of Florida, insuring the employees of said Village or
any class or classes thereof against loss of life or health or against accidents
or for the payment to such employees of annuities or pensions as the Council
may see fit and providing for the making of contributions of public monies
in performance of such contracts.
Section 2. The Village Council shall be authorized annually
to levy on all of the real and personal property in said Village taxes not
exceeding one mill on the dollar of the assessed valuation of said property for
the purpose of paying the cost of the municipality's contribution to the pension
plan referred to in section (a) and the insurance plan referred to in section (b)
but the taxes levied by said Council for either or both of said plans shall not
exceed in any one year an amount equal to one mill on the dollar of the assessed
valuation of all of said property.
Section 3. The election shall be held on April IZ, 1955, being
the date of the holding of the general election for the election of members
of theCouncil of Miami Shores Village and shall be conducted in all respects
and governed by all applicable rules and regulations provided for by law
for the conducting of the election of such Councilmen, except that only
registered freeholders shall be permitted to vote in the election held pur-
suant to this ordinance.
Section 4. The Village Manager is authorized and directed
to prepare appropriate ballots for use at such election which ballots shall
state in general terms the substance of said ordinances and shall provide
for the electors to indicate his choice for or against the adoption of either
or both of said ordinances in suitable places provided for on such ballots.
Section 5. The Village Manager shall give notice� of the
holding of such election in a notice published one time not less than 30 days
prior to the holding of such election in a newspaper published and of general
circulation in Dade County, Florida.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect immediately
upon its passage.
