MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE RATIFYING, APPROVING AND ACCEPTING THE
REPORT AND CERTIFICATE OF THE ELECTION JUDGES OF MIAMI
SHORES VILLAGE AS TO THE RESULT OF THE RUN-OFF ELECTION
TO DETERMINE THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES TO FILL THE TWO
VACANCIES ON MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL HELD IN SAID
VILLAGE ON JULY 5, 1939.
WHEREAS, at the regular election held in Miami Shores Village
on June 20, 1939, to name the successors to Honorable Hugh H. Gordon,
Jr., and Honorable John M. Carlisle, as members of Miami Shores Village
Counell,the candidates therein and neither of them, obtained a majority
of votes by the qualified electors in. said Village casting votes, in
said election, and by reason thereof it became necessary to hold and
have a run-off election between the four candidates receiving the
highest number of votes therefor, and
W9REAS, on July 5, 1959s, said run-off election was duly
held in Miami Shores Village in accordance with the laws and ordinances
of the Village and of the State of Florida, and
WHEREAS, at said election 518 qualified electors of said
Village voted therein, and
WHEREAS, the election judges have filed their report of the
result of said election, and
WHEREAS, the Council has duly and regularly canvassed the
results of said election, and as a result of such canvass has ratified,
approved and certified the result of said election as made by said
election judges, and
WHEAiEAS, the result of said run-off election discloses the
following number of votes cast as hereinafter shown opposite the names
of the respective candidates as follows:
Hugh H. Gordon, Jr. - 101
John G. Thompson - 154
Stanley Milledge - 160
W. Meade Stockdell - 160
and
WHEREAS, the said Stanley Milledge and W. Meade Stockdell
received a majority of votes cast at said run.-off election for the two
vacancies on said Council in accordance with the provisions of the
Village charter, and by reason thereof, are duly elected as members
of the Miami Shores Village Council.
NOVA, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE:
SECTION 1. That the certificate and report of the election
judges containing the returns of the run-off election held in Miami
Shores Village on July 5, 1939, to name the successors to Honorable
Hugh H. Gordon, Jr., and Honorable John M. Carlisle, as members of said
Village Council, and containing the number of votes cast for the
candidates named therein, be, and the same is hereby accepted, ratified
and approved, and after having duly and regularly canvassed the returns
of said election, the same are hereby certified to be true and correct
as follows:
Hugh H. Gordon, Jr. - 101
John G. Thompson - 154
Stanley Milledge - 160
W. Meade Stockdell - 160
SECTION 2. That the said Stanley Milledge and W. Meade
Stockdell by reason of procuring a majority of votes cast in said
run-off election as aforesaid, are hereby declared to be duly elected
members of Miami Shores Village Council.
SECTION 3. That all of the acts and doings of the election.
judges at said run-off election in said Village and of the Council in
calling the same be, and each of them, are hereby ratified, approved
and confirmed.
UNANIMOUSLY PASSED AND ADOPTED this CO day of July,
