ITEM #1 MINUTES - AUGUST 24th AND 30th, 1995
Mr. Blum asked that the line on page 1, Item 2 that reads "Mr. Blum noted that the Board
generally approves the plans submitted." be amended to read "...the Board generally reviews the
plans submitted." Mr. Blum moved for approval of the minutes of August 24, 1995 as amended
and August 30, 1995 as submitted. Mr. Hegedus seconded the motion and the vote was
unanimous in favor.
ITEM #2 REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO USE CEDAR SHINGLES IN LIEU OF
PREVIOUSLY APPROVED CEDAR SHAKES
Mr. LuBien explained that the homeowner was granted a variance to use cedar shakes. Having
called for a tile -in -progress inspection, it was noted that shingles were being placed on the roof
instead of the approved Cedar + CCA shakes. Ms. Donaldson submitted photos of the property.
She stated that work on the mansard roof was underway with the cedar shingles when Mr.
LuBien came for inspection. Work was then stopped on the roof. Ms. Donaldson stated that the
wrong shingles were sent to the roofer. Karen Rodman, Rodman Roofing Company, confirmed
that an order was placed for the cedar shakes. She stated that the company will re -roof the
mansard with the correct product. Mr. Blum asked why the request was before the Board if
everyone is in agreement that the shakes were approved and ordered. Ms. Rodman stated that the
request was made for cosmetic reasons. The homeowner feels that the shingles look better.
After discussion regarding the difference between shingles and shakes, Mr. Ulmer moved that the
item be tabled until the next meeting to give the homeowner time to decide which roofing material
she would like to install. Mr. Hegedus seconded the motion. It was noted that, should the
homeowner decide to use cedar shakes, she would not have to return before the Board, as a
variance has already been granted for that use.
