08-11-1994 Regular MeetingMIAMI SHORES VILLAGE PLANNING & ZONING BOARD REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 11, 1994 The regular meeting of the Miami Shores Planning & Zoning Board was held on Thursday August 11, 1994. The meeting was called to order at 7:33 P.M. by Acting Chairman McClure with the following members present: Robert Blum Les Forney Charles Smith Larry McClure Absent: Cliff Walters Also Present: Mr. Bill Fann, Village Attorney Mr. Frank LuBien, Director Building & Zoning 1. Minutes - July 14, 1994 Mr. Forney moved to approve the minutes with the following corrections: Page 2, Item 4, 6th paragraph, 4th line, "by Miami Shores Village" Is to be added to the sentence. Page 2, Item 6, 1st paragraph is to read: Mr. Smith present- ed to the Board various samples and literature pertaining to higher grade alternative roofing materials than those suggested for use on structures which cannot support tile. Following the presentation, Mr. Smith presented a draft proposed ordinance which would codify the types of allowable alternatives and eliminate the use of asphalt and fiberglass flexible laminated shingles." Mr. Blum seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 2. Request for approval of variance to refoof with shingles Jacqueline Frohbose 9305 NE 9 Avenue Mr. Frohbose stated he has a wood frame home and the roof needs to be replaced. Mr. Frohbose submitted a report by Mr. Shackelford, Civil/Structural Engineer stating the roof system is not designed, nor can it withstand the static loads Imposed by a tile roof. Also, the age of the roof and the type of construction, he does not recommend wood shingles due to the tendancy to retain moisture and its associated weight. After further discussion, Mr. Forney moved to approve the variance as submitted. Mr. Blum seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 3. Request for approval of variance to reroof with shingles Beverly Roll 60 NE 111 Street Mr. Miller of Miller Roofing and Mrs. Roll commented on the roof- ing materials they prefer. Mrs. Roll stated that she would strongly consider dimensional shingles for her home. Planning & Zoning meeting - 2 - August 11, 1994 Mr. Smith moved to approve the variance with the stipulation that Dade County product approved dimensional shingles be used on the home. Mr. Blum seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 3.a Discussion - Roofing materials ordinance modification Mr. Smith began the discussion stating the modification Is more procedural and a good format for a standard form that should be completed by the applicant In order to apply for a variance for roofing materials. It was suggested that the Board should have the assistance of a professional engineer In detailing the verbage. Mr. Fann stated he will prepare a form for the Board's con- sideration with regard to a variance of roofing materials. A motion for adjournment was made at 8:35 P.M. Veronica A.
