PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING
May 10, 1979
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Planning & Zoning Board was
held at 7:30 p.m., May 10, 1979, at the Village Hall, with the following
members present:

Mr. J. Robert Stobs
Mrs. Roberta Johnson
Mr. J. S. Palmer
Absent: Mr. Albert R. Toussaint
Mr. Frank LuBien, Public Works Director, was also present, and Mr.
Ackley, Village Manager, arrived during the meeting.
In the absence of Mr. Toussaint Mrs. Johnson was asked to take
the chair.
(1) Minutes of the meeting of April 26, 1979, were approved
as written by motion made by Mr. Palmer, seconded by Mr. Moyer and carried.
(2) A request was made for permit to construct a flat porch
roof on the home of Bruno Prelaz, 86 N. W. 108th Street. This roof complies
with the 15% requirement and visibility requirement but needed Planning
Board approval on practical application of this type roof. After review
of the plan Mr. Moyer moved that it be approved. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Palmer and passed unanimously.
(3) A request was made by Attorney Albert Quinton on behalf of
Tropical Chevrolet, to vacate a portion of N. E. 89th Street and N. E. 5th
Court as a public street, to facilitate the use of the Tropical Chevrolet
lying on both sides of these streets. Mrs. Johnson pointed out that accord-
ing to the plat of the subdivision, if the street is abandoned it will revert
to the original subdivider, its successors and assigns. In the discussion
that followed question arose as to how the public would be prevented from
using these streets, if closed, and the volume of traffic presently involved.
Mr. Ackley reported that he had already requested a traffic count from Dade
County. Mr. Quinton was informed that this request would require a public
hearing. No action was taken pending receipt of the traffic count and further
instruction from the petitioners.
(4) Plans for Baptist Church alteration and addition - No
representative of Church present to discuss plans.
(5) Community Church kindergarten and day care school application
for a State license: The State requires that these facilities be located
in a zoning which does not prohibit kindergartens and day care schools. The
-2-
Village Manager suggested that the Planning Board consider a motion that
church sponsored day care, kindergartens and other educational activities
are presently in conformance with our zoning laws. Mr. Palmer moved that
this letter be given the church so that they can get their State license.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Moyer and passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
