08-23-1962 Regular MeetingMIAMI SHORES VILLAGE PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING August 23, 1962 A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Planning and Zoning Board was held at 7:30 P. M. , August 23, 1962, at the Village Hall, with the following members present: Mr. Gordon H. Moyer, Jr. , Chairman Mr. Marion B. Arnold Mr. Elwood Jones Mr. Emrys C. Harris Mr. Thomas B. Baden Absent: None Mr. Charles Markel, Building and Zoning Director, was also present. Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written by motion made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Arnold and passed unanimously. (1) Mrs. Joan Putnam, 1165 N. E. 91st Terrace, appeared before the Board to request permit to enlarge a bedroom, maintaining the present side yard setback of 7-1/2 ft. which was the legal set back at the time the house was built, prior to being annexed into the Village. Mrs. Putnam had been given a building permit and work had been started when one of the neighbors brought this to the attention of _the Village Manager who stated it must be approved by the Planning Board. Mr. Arnold moved that the permit be approved as the Board does not consider this a variance but the continuance of a building under the non -conforming regulations. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously. (2) Plans for a new pylon sign were presented for the Kwik Chek store at 9055 Biscayne Blvd. , by the Claude Southern Sign Company. It was pointed out that this would not be a revolving sign as shown and would have less area than the sign previously approved. Mr. Arnold moved that this sign be approved and that the action of the Planning Board insofar as the previous sign permitted be revoked and that the area of all the signs not exceed the area permitted in the ordinance; also that the height of this sign not exceed 25 ft. and that the sign be located in line with the Uncle Johns Pancake House sign. Motion was seconded by Mr. Baden and passed unanimously. (3) The Building Inspector presented a design for a concrete louvered fence for the Village parking lot between 97th and 98th Streets -2- west of the alley. Inasmuch as some members of the Board did not think this type fence was very attractive, they asked Mr. Markel to secure prices on a picket type fence with shrubbery. Mr. Arnold reported that Mrs. Norcross of 515 N. E. 101st St., had decided to put awnings on her carport without closing it in which would not require a variance. Mr. Baden stated he had recently talked with Mrs. Hoenes on N. E. 111th Street and that she seemed satisfied with the condition of the disposal plant at Barry College. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 P. M. • Approved: Chairman 8/23/62
