PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING
December 22, 1960
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Planning and Zoning
Board was held at 7:30 P. M. , December 22, 1960, at the Village Hall,
with the following members present:
Mr. Marion B. Arnold, Chairman
Mr. Gordon H. Moyer, Jr.
Mr. Elwood Jones
Mr. Thomas B. Baden
Absent: Mr. Emrys C. Harris
Mr. Charles H. Markel, Building and Zoning Director and Mr.
William Bradford, Assistant Director, were also present.
Minutes of the last meeting were unanimously approved as written
by motion made by Mr. Moyer and seconded by Mr. Jones.
(1) An office sign was presented for Dr. Keffer, to be painted
on the south side of the Metropolitan Building which was approved by
motion made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Moyer and passed unanimously.
(2) A request was made by Mr. Gardner, 1250 N. E. 91st Terrace,
east 5 ft. of Lot 30, 31, and 32 less east 20 ft., Watersedge Sub., to con-
struct decorative walls within the front setback. The walls are to provide
privacy to the front windows and would be about eight feet high and nine feet
from the front line. Mr. Jones recommended to the Council that due to
the severity as to size of this infringement on the front setback, that the
request be denied. Motion was seconded by Mr. Moyer and passed unanimously.
(3) Final plans were presented for the Christian Church to be con-
structed on the vacant land immediately north of the City Hall. Because of
the appearance of an asbestos tile shingle roof, Mr. Baden moved that the
Board approve the building plans but delay final approval of the roof. Motion
was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
(4) Mr. Gunter, who is constructing a home at 136 N.E. 91st St. ,'
Lot 5, Block 7, El Portal Sub., requested that he be permitted to park in
front of his home and that his air conditioning compressor be constructed
on the west side. Mr. Gunter stated there is approximately 60 ft. between
this side of his house and the next residence and that if at any future time
it annoyed anyone he would be willing to put up a wall or make any other
adjustment necessary. Mr. Jones moved that the Board grant the request
to allow the compressor to be put on the west side. Motion was seconded

by Mr. Baden and passed 3/1 with Mr. Moyer dissenting.
(5) Mrs. Edith Clark appeared at this meeting to request a public
hearing for the re -zoning of a portion of Tract "A", Shores Center (the
Pickin' Chicken property and the vacant area north of the former restaurant),
from A-1 and A-2 to B-2 for the construction of a proposed shopping mall.
The Board set the hearing for January 26th.
(6) Mr. William H. Schaefer, 430 Grand Concourse, Lots 10 and
11, Block 86, M. S. Sub. , was present to request variance for the
construction of a carport within five feet of the side line. Mr. Moyer
moved that this request be denied. Motion was seconded by Mr. Baden
and passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P. M.
