PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING
October 6, 1960
A special meeting of the Miami Shores Village Planning and Zoning
Board was held at 7:30 P.M., October 6, 1960, at the Village Hall, with
the following manbers present:
Mr. Gordon H. Moyer, Jr.
Mr. Elwood Jones
Mr. Emrys C. Harris
Absent: Mr. Marion B. Arnold, Chairman
Mr. Charles H. Markel, Building and Zoning Director and Mr.
William Bradford, Assistant Director, were also present.
In the absence of Mr. Arnold, Mr. Jones moved that Mr. Moyer
take the chair. Motion was seconded by Mr. Harris and carried.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as written by
motion made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Harris and passed.
(1) Plans were presented for a residence for Monroe L. Cooperman,
to be built on the north 120.5 ft. of the east 1/2 of Lot 2, Block 185, at the
southwest corner of N. E. 102nd St. and 13th Ave. These plans called for an
unattached carport in front of the house. The zoning ordinance requires that
all buildings not attached to the main structure must be in the rear yard. Mr.
Markel pointed out several structural changes that will have to be made and
the unusual exterior design of the house. After discussion Mr. Jones moved
that the Board grant request for this carport providing it will be tied in with
the main structure, or if they find a way to put it on the west side of the lot and
tie it in with the main structure, • and permit the precast panels to be installed
providing they come to the Building Dept. with a detailed drawing as to how they
will be installed. Motion was seconded by Mr. Harris and passed unanimously.
(2) At a meeting of June 23, 1960, the Planning Board approved
permitting the owner of the Mt. Vernon Motel to move his sign out ten feet
closer to the Boulevard. At this meeting a drawing was presented for a com-
bination of signs to., be added to the present sign, raising its elevation from
16 ft. to 25 ft. Mr. Jones moved that the Board deny this request for a height
. of 25 ft. and that approval be given if a sketch is presented to the Building Dept.
for a sign that will nct exceed 18 ft. in height. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Harris and passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 P. M.
