PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING:
July 14, 1960.
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Planning and Zoning
Board was held at 7:30 P. M. , July 14, 1960, at the Village Hall, with
the following members present:
Mr. Marion B. Arnold, Chairman
Mr. Elwood .Jones
Mr. Gordon H. Moyer, .Jr.
Col. Thomas F. Burke
Mr. Emrys C. Harris
Mr. Charles H. Markel, Building and Zoning Director and
Mr. William Bradford, Assistant Director, were also present.
Inasmuch as the rrieeting started before Mr. Arnold arrived,
Mr. Moyer was asked totake the chair.
Minutes were approved as written by motion made by Col. Burke,
seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
(1) Mr. W. C. Reichhardt, 510 N. E. 95th St., Lots 10 and H.,
Block 55, M. S. Sub., requested permit to alter and enlarge the use of a
non -conforming building in the rear yard by converting the garage area
of the building into a store room and enclosing the carport for a hobby
workshop. After a review of the plan, Mr. Harris moved that this request
be approved. Mr. Jones: seconded the motion and it was passed 4/1
with Mr. Arnold.: dissenting.
(2) Mr. John Hopper, 72 N. E. 104th St., Lots 3 and 1/2 4,
Block 123, requested permit to remodel a screened porch into a bedroom
and bath with outside entrance for access to a future patio and pool. Col.
Burke moved that this be approved. Motion was seconded by Mr. Arnold
and passed unanimously.
(3) Mr. Richard Plumes, 913 N. E. 98th St., Lots 14 and 15,
Block 80, requested permit to extend a stone step approximately six feet
from the building ting of the house into the front yard which the Board
approved without motion. Mr. Plumer also requested a variance to
extend an existing roof to form a shelter for an automobile which will
come within three feet of the alley. After review of this request Mr. Jones
moved that the Board recommend approval for an aluminum or fiberglass
roof to come within three feet of the alley with no vertical stanchions.
Motionn, was seconded by Col. Burke and passed 4/1 with Mr. Arnold
dissenting, who added he is very much against any -variance that will come
that close to the alley line.

(4) Mr. R. E. Gunter requested permit to build on Lot 5,
Block 7, El Portal Sub. , .a 50 ft. lot. Inasmuch as the property owner to the
west owns 125 ft., an effort was made tobuy additional land. However,
Mr. Gunter presented a letter to the Board from Mr. R. Seiler stating
that he is not interested in selling any part of his property at this time.
Mr. Arnold moved thatthe permit be granted. Motion was seconded by
Col. Burke and passed unanimously.
(5) Mr. Frazier, representing the Christian Church, requested
permit to erect a sign on their property north of the City Hall announcing
the construction of a new church_ on that site. The sign is to be 4 ft. x 5-1/2 ft.
It is contemplated that the church will be started in. September and completed
by January 1st. Mr. Arnold moved that this sign be permitted for a period
of six months. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones:: and passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25 P. M.
