PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING
March 12, 1959
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Planning and
Zoning Board was held at 7:30 P. M. , March 12, 1959, at the Village
Hall, with the following members present:
Mr. Marion B. Arnold, Chairman
Mr. Elwood Jones
Mr. Gordon H. Moyer, Jr.
Col. Thomas F. Burke
Absent: Mr. Emrys Harris
Mr. Charles H. Markel, Building and Zoning Director, and
Mr. William Bradford, Assistant Director, were also present.
Mr. Moyer moved that the minutes be dispensed with and
approved as written. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed
unanimously.
(1) Plans for an addition to the home of Olin C. Johnston,
302 N. E. 97th St., drawn by Mr. Markel, were re -submitted to the
Board for further consideration. These plans included converting the
garage into a bedroom with an outside entrance and adding a Florida room.
After some discussion Col. Burke moved that the plans be approved as
submitted. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
(2) The request made by Tropical Chevrolet to use certain
areas in Block 21 and 23, El Portal Sub., for storage and display of
cars, and to fence in part of these areas, was again discussed. Mr. T.
H. Teasley and Mr. Charles Bradshaw, nephew of the owner, were
present. Mr. Bradshaw stated they would be willing Ico put only new cars
in the lot on 6th Ave., that they anticipate no selling off the lot except
when a customer comes in to look at a car and it is necessary to take
him over to the lot to show him the car. They would also like to surface
a part of this lot. Mr. Teasley stated that Metro has approved the closing
of N. E. 87th St.

Mr. Moyer moved that the Board recommend to the Council
approval of theuse of the property in Flock 21 for new cars only and the
area in Block 23 for new and used cars, and to fence the area in Block 23

with a chain. link fence and to surface area with approved asphalt surface
or oil and sand and that the area in Block 21 also be surfaced with
approved surfacing and surround the 100 ft. along 6th Aye., 150 ft. on
the north side of the area and 150 ft. on the south side of the area west
from 6th Ave. and 59.87 ft. along the rear of Lots 18 and 19 going south,
with a decorative wall or solid wall of not less than three and one-half
feet in height and that the balance of the area perimeter of the lot be
enclosed with a chain link fence comparable to the fence used in Block 23.
Motion was seconded by Col. Burke and passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
