PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD MEETING
February 12, 1959
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Planning and
Zoning Board was held at 7:30 P. M. , February 12, 1959, at the Village
Hall, with the following members present:
Mr. Marion B. Arnold, Chairman
Mr. Gordon H. Moyer, Jr.
Mr. Elwood Jones
Mr. Emrys Harris
Absent: Col. Thomas F. Burke
Mr. Charles H. Markel, Building and Zoning Director, was
also present.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were approved by motion made
by Mr. Moyer, seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
(1) The following plans prepared by Mr. Markel were reviewed
by the Board: alterations and addition to residence of William S. Wightman,
Jr., 390 N. E. 101st St., and addition of Florida room and store room to
residence of Mrs. E. E. Mitchell, 149 N. E. 105th St. Inasmuch as these
plans met all building and zoning regulations, Mr. Moyer moved that they
be approved. Motion was seconded by Mr. Jones and passed unanimously.
(2) Mr. Anthony Salamone of 830 N. E. 91st Terrace, was
again present for consideration of his previous request for permit to
construct two more rental units in the building behind his home at the
above address. This building now has two apartments which were con-
structed without permit by the former owner. Mr. Harris pointed out that
the Board has no authority to change the zone from residential to apartment
use. Mr. Jones moved that'the Board deny this request. Motion was
seconded by Mr. Harris and passed unanimously. Mr. Salamone was told
he could appeal this decision with the Council.
(3) Mr. Craig Burton of Bay Lands, Inc. presented a proposal
for the use of the apartment property at the eastern end of 105th St. His
company would like to plat this land in lots of at least 125 ft. in width,
increase the side setbacks, provide off-street parking and extend the
height limitation to six stories. On the Bay frontage they would like to
build a 16 -story apartment building.
It was pointed out that under this proposal there could be
-2-
640 apartment units which would considerably intensify the living area
and present a sewage problem as well as service problems. Mr. Burton
stated he would return after they had worked out the sewage disposal
problem and present some sketches of the proposed development.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 P. M.
