11-17-1987 Regular MeetingMIAMI SHORES VILLAGE PENSION BOARD MEETING The meeting of the Miami Shores Village Pension Board was called to order on Tuesday November 17, 1987 at 8:00 a.m. by Mayor Spero Canton With the following in attendance: Board Members Mayor Spero Canton Dr. Robert Butler Mr. Elly Johnson Sargeant Jack Ulmer Ms. Patricia Varney Mr. William Heffernan Mr. William Walker Also Present: Mr. William Fann, Village Attorney, Ms. Gail Macdonald, Plan Administrator, Ms. Karen Cole and Mr. David Newman of Kidder Peabody, Mr. Bill Eickhoff of Eickhoff and Pieper 1. Discussion of the Quarterly Investment Review with Kidder Peabody Ms. Cole presented to the Board the Quarterly report ending 9/30/87 that showed an overall portfolio increase of 2.9%. Dr. Butler requested from Kidder Peabody that the Real Estate portion be shown on the Quarterly Report and not separately reported. Mr. Walker suggested that the phrase "Any reference to "Total Fund' does not include Real Estate" be placed on the front page of any future reports. Mr. Newman replied that he will try to comply with the request. 2. Discussion of the Overall Pension Performance with Eickhoff & Pieper Mr. Eickhoff reported that with the recent decline in the stock market, Eickhoff & Pieper was positioning for recovery and not necessarily taking a defensive position. The overall position of the Pension Plan at 10/31/87 is stable but with the fluctuation of the market, Mr. E€ckhoff proposed to carefully monitor the stocks, be conservative, and try to stay within a 35% cash position.(See Employees Retirement Plan Statement of Position attached). 3. Approval for payment of the October 15, 1987 Carson & Linn Invoice. Mr. Walker made a motion to approve payment of the Carson & Linn invoice of October 15, 1987 in the amount of $33.19. The motion was seconded by Dr. Butler. The motion passed unanimously. 4. Approval for payment of• the Eickhoff & Pieper Quarterly Bill Mr. Walker made a motion to approve payment of the Eickboff and Pieper Quarterly bill in the amount of $5,946.61. The motion was seconded by Dr. Butler. The motion passed unanimously. 5. Approval for payment of the NCNB Quarterly Bill Mr. Walker made a motion to approve the payment of the invoice submitted by NCNB in the amount of $5,017.03. The motion was seconded by Sargeant Ulmer. The motion passed unanimously. • 6. Old Business - Discussion of An Additional Equity Manager Search Mr. Johnson made a motion that all further discussion of an additional Equity Managerbe postponed because of the stock market and that the Board would re-evaluate it at a future meeting. The motion was seconded by Dr. Butler The motion passed unanimously. 7. A proval of the September 25th Pension Board Minutes Sargeant Ulmer made a motion to change the reading of the September 25th minutes under item #5 to have the words "for the Board" be struck from the explanation. The motion was seconded by Mr. Walker. The motion was passed unanimously. 8. Adjournment Mr. Johnson made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Mr. Walker.
