Miami Shores Village
PENSION BOARD MEETING
March 31, 1981
A meeting of the Miami Shores Pension Board was held on Tuesday,
March 31, 1981, 8:00 a.m., at the Village Hall, with the following in attend-
ance:
Pension Board members: Mayor Henry A. Everett
Councilman Spahn
Mr. John McCoy
Mr. 0. Sam Ackley, Village Manager
Chief Fletcher
Miss Ann Vigneron
Absent: Mr. Joseph Gionfriddo
Also Present:
Mr. Sri Balgobin, Pension Administrator
Mr. Wally Wilson, Wyatt Co. actuary
Mr. Don Slesnick, Attorney for P.B.A.
Lt. Zoovas, Lt. Brenton, Sgt. Jack Ulmer
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Everett and then turned
over to Don Slesnick, attorney for the Police Benevolent Association of Dade
County, who discussed pension benefits in connection with recruiting police
officers and labor negotiations. He asked the Board to consider earlier
vesting, earlier retirement and increased benefits. Mr. Ackley moved that a
committee of Mr. McCoy and Chief Fletcher be appointed to discuss this
proposal with the P.B.A. and come back to the Board with some alternatives
for review and decision. The motion died for lack of a second.
Mr. Spahn asked that the actuary present cost figures for police and
all employees on changing vesting to 10 or 15 years, look at 50 years of age
for Police instead of 25 years or age 52, and final 3 years average salary.
Mr. Ackley suggested that a meeting be held by Council to talk about
labor negotiations with regard to pension benefits. This was set up for 7:00
p.m. prior to Council meeting on April 7, 1981.
The Pension Board will meet again on Friday, April 10, at 8:00 a.m.
for review of the cost figures.
The meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
