MEETING
A meeting of the Miami Shores Village Pension Board was held on
Tuesday, November 28, 1972 at 8:00 a. m: in Uncle Johns Pancake House,
Biscayne Boulevard, Miami Shores, Florida.
The following were present:
Mayor Elwood Jones
John W. McIntyre
Michael Franco
Mrs. Marjorie Dunn
Gerald McFarlin
Dean Miller
Wayne Thurman
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The application for late retirement and certification by the actuary
on Grady Pendleton was read. A motion was made by Mr. Franco, and seconded by
Mr. McIntyre, that the certification giving Grady Pendleton a monthly retirement
income in the amount of $446.18 for life be. approved. The motion passed unani-
mously. Copies of the application and certification are made a part of
these minutes.
A discussion was held on changing the wording of section 3 (t) of
the pension plan, so that an employee that retired at a date other than
December 31st, would receive full credit for his/her earnings up to the
last month of employment. Mrs. Dunn made a motion, seconded by Mr. McIntyre,
that a recommendation be made to the Village Council that the actuary pre-
pare a proposed amendment to the pension ordinance to accomplish this pro-
posal.
A discussion was held on the possibility of lowering the normal
retirement age to 55 for Village iolice and Fire employees. After learning
that, based on a study made in 1970 by the actuary, the cost of such an
amendment to" the plan would -cost approximately 50%.more per year, the Board,
on a motion made by Mr. Franco, and seconded by Mr. Miller, recommended
unanimously that the Village Council not consider a lowering of retirement
age for Police and Fire employees at this time.
A discussion was held on the present maeup of the board, and all
Members agreed that there is now adequate representation of all parties con-
cerned at this time.
