MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
The Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board met on Monday, March 23, 2009, in the Council
Chambers of Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM, with members Alain Gonzalez,
Nina Korman, and Christina Lane in attendance. Member Sandy Roberts was not present but had
submitted her written materials through Barbara Estep, the Village Clerk, who was also present for the
meeting.
Ms. Estep distributed copies of the written materials supplied by the Board Members so that each
member had a copy of all the submittals. Ms. Estep advised the Board Members that she would use
the submitted information as back-up to the Council Agenda item regarding co -designating Miami
Shores' roadways.
Ms. Estep indicated that she would develop a Resolution to present to the Village Council expressing
the Board's recommendation to co -designate Biscayne Boulevard as Hugh Anderson Boulevard.
With respect to the Board's previous motion to co -designate N.E. 2"d Avenue as Ellen Spears Harris
Avenue if possible, Ms. Estep advised the Board that the Council had just taken action to re-name/co-
designate N.E. 2nd Avenue as Village Place Avenue and that it was not feasible to add a fourth name to
the roadway. Ms. Estep suggested that N.E. 2nd Avenue, the Board could recommend that N.E. 6th
Avenue, also a State road, be co -designated as Ellen Spears Harris Avenue. Following a brief
discussion regarding this possibility, Ms. Lane moved to recommend that co -designation of N.E. 6th
Avenue as Ellen Spears Harris Avenue be presented to the Village Council. Mr. Gonzalez seconded the
motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. Ms. Estep stated that she would develop
the appropriate resolution regarding the second roadway designation recommendation.
The March 23, 2009 Historic Preservation Board was adjourned at 6:45 PM.
