08-08-2006 Regular Meeting• MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD The regularly scheduled meeting of the Historic Preservation Board was held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at the Village Hall. The Meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM with the following members present: PRESENT: Bob Davis Carolyne Cadwallader Nina Korman Madeleine Romanello ALSO PRESENT: Barbara Estep, Village Clerk ACTION ITEMS 1) Appointment of Chair for the Meeting Ms. Romanello nominated Mr. Davis to act as the Chair of the Meeting. With no other nominations or objections raised, Mr. Davis assumed the Chair's role. 2) Minutes - JULY 17, 2006 • Ms. Cadwallader moved to accept the July 17, 2006 Meeting Minutes as submitted. Ms. Romanello seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. • 3) APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS Applicant: Barry Asmus - Owner 515 N.E. 101st Street Requests: a) Replacement of windows and a selection of doors. b) Elimination of select windows. c) Removal of window air conditioner units. d) Replacement of screen porch enclosure. e) Replacement of awning. Mr. Barry Asmus was present and outlined the proposed improvements to the home. Mr. Asmus indicated that some of the work involved replacing elements which had been damaged by Hurricane Wilma, and some of the work was to harden the home against future storms and to make the home more energy efficient. Mr. Asmus detailed the proposed replacement of jalousie windows and doors with impact windows and French doors, the replacement of the damaged screen enclosure and driveway and front entranceway awnings, and the removal of the through -wall air conditioner units with a central air system. In response to questions posed by the Board, Mr. Asmus indicated that the windows and doors would be white and that the screen enclosure frame would be dark bronze in color. Mr. Asmus stated that his color preference for the replacement awnings would be a dark green fabric but if the green • were not available, he would use a terra cotta color, similar to what is being replaced. A brief discussion regarding the area proposed for the air conditioner units ensued, with the Board being assured that the proposed unit in the front of the home would be adequately shielded with shrubs or plant materials. At the conclusion of the discussion, Ms. Romanello moved to grant the Certificate of Appropriateness for the following projects: a) replacement of jalousie windows and doors as outlined in submitted package, b) elimination of certain windows, c) removal of through-wall/window air conditioning units, d) replacement of screen porch enclosure and d) replacement of awnings. In addition, the Certificate of Appropriateness should stipulate that when central air conditioning is installed, the unit to be located in the front of the home shall be appropriately screened with landscaping materials; and that the awning materials should be dark green fabric or if the dark green is unavailable, a terra cotta color awning should be utilized. Ms. Korman seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion. The August 8, 2006 Historic Preservation Board Meeting was adjourned at 6:50 PM. thO. / , HOG • Barbara A.
