07-14-2003 Regular MeetingMIAMI SHORES VILLAGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MEETING The Historic Preservation Board held its regular meeting on Monday, July 14, 2003 at the Village Hall. The Meeting was called to roder at 7:30 Pm with the following members present: PRESENT: Martha Anne Collins ABSENT: Carolyne Cadwallader Bob Davis Steve Zelkowitz Hal Marshall Maria Temkin William Tenney ALSO PRESENT: Barbara Estep, Village Clerk ,ACTION ITEMS 1. Minutes — April 7, 2003 Ms. Collins moved approval of the April 7, 2003 Minutes as submitted. Mr. Marshall seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor. 2. Request for Certificate of Appropriateness Address: 152 N.E. 93ro Street Applicant: Sarah Meltzoff Request: Awning Installation Ms. Meltzoff provided information regarding her request, including the color of the proposed fabric awnings and the hardware to be used. Ms. Meltzoff clarified for the Board Members the location of the windows and the shape of the awnings. Mr. Davis moved to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness. Ms. Collins seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor. DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Strategies for encouraging home owners to participate in the designation program. Mr. Tenney opened the informal discussion and Board Members spoke of various ways to advise residents of the designation program. Following a suggestion that a Village Newsletter article would be helpful, Mr. Marshall volunteered to put information together to publish in the September newsletter. 2. Placement of an historic marker at the retirement home of General John B. Gordon. Mr. Tenney spoke of his interest in placing some sort of marker commemorating the summer home of Civil War General John Gordon. Mr. Davis expressed his concerns regarding such a marker and Ms. Estep advised the Board that issues such as roadway rights-of-way and easements would need to be considered as well. A discussion regarding the actual property location and its significance ensued. At the conclusion of the discussion, Mr. Tenney volunteered to approach the current property owners to see If they will consider being designated as a historic home by the Miami Shores Village Council.
