The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Bittner with the following members present and absent: Present: Warren Bittner, Chairman Maria Temkin, Vice Chairperson Carolyne Cadwallader, Member Martha Anne Collins, Member Suzanne Blas, Member Absent: William Tenney, Member Fred Newman, Member AGENDA ITEMS APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF OCTOBER 9, 2001 Ms. Collins moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded by Ms. Cadwallader and passed unanimously. PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS 1. REQUEST FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 9760 N.E. 5th Avenue Road APPLICANT: Peter & Leslie Tattersfield Maintenance or Repair: Replace original Cuban Tile Roof Mr. Bittner advised that he had received a telephone message from Mrs. Tattersfield that she could not make it to the meeting because she was out of town and she had been delayed. She had earlier indicated the date of the meeting was good for her. Because of the circumstances of the Tattersfield's moving to Mexico in the very near future, as indicated in the Application, and the urgent need to get the project underway before they left, Mr. Bittner suggested that the Board decide the Application in the absence of the property owners. The Application requests approval to remove the original historic Cuban tile roof, salvage as much tile as possible, redo the underlayments, and replace the original historic Cuban tile. An alternative, to utilize new "Santa Fe - S" Tile, was included. Since the request to salvage and reuse the historic Cuban tile was strongly encouraged by s. 104.11 of the South Florida Building Code, where feasible, and since Historic Preservation Board Regular Meeting November 26, 2001 Page 2 the Applicants were not present to explain why compliance with the South Florida Building Code was not feasible, the Board decided not to rule on the Alternative, but to approve the Application to replace and restore the historic Cuban tile only. If the Alternative was necessary, the Applicants could always return to the Board. The motion to approve the Application to replace and reuse the original historic Cuban tile was made by Ms. Blaz, seconded by Ms. Collins, and passed unanimously. 2. REQUEST FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 548 GRAND CONCOURSE APPLICANTS: MARK & MARGARITA OWEN Maintenance or Repair: Repaint House with Existing Color This item was deferred from the last meeting, for the reasons explained in the minutes of October 9, 2001.
