1. REQUEST FOR INFORMAL OPINION
561 N.E. 101St Street
APPLICANTS: MARTY KERN
Maintenance or Repair: Repaint exterior of home, windows, doors and
trim; install canvas awnings.
Mr. Bittner prefaced this item by indicating that the subject property is not locally
designated, although it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Bittner
then pointed out that the Board, therefore, has no jurisdiction over the property, and that
Ms. Kern was merely requesting an informal opinion of the individual board members in
the event she were to decide to designate the property. Ms. Kern relayed that the Village
Building Official had refused to issue her a permit to paint with the color she was
proposing, i.e., Pratt & Lambert #1636 "Split Pea". Ms. Kern went on to indicate that she
wished to paint the trim white. Finally, Ms. Kern showed the Board the fabric which she
proposed using for the canvass awnings on the front facade of her home, i.e., Sunbrella
#4919, "Mediterranean Aqua". After some discussion, a unanimous consensus was

reached that, if Ms. Kern were to designate this home, the color combination, and awning
selection, that she was suggesting would be appropriate for this home.

REQUEST FOR DESIGNATION
561 N.E. 101St Street.
APPLICANTS: MARTY KERN
After receiving the Board members individual informal opinions on her proposed
paint colors and awning selection, Ms. Kern then indicated to the Board that she would be
amenable to designating her property. Mr. Bittner pointed out that since the property is
already on the National Register of Historic Places, and extensive historic research has
already been conducted, this property more than qualifies for designation. Mr. Arden
moved to recommend this property to the Village Counsel for designation, which was
seconded by Ms. Collins, and passed unanimously.
ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMENTS
3. "SHORELAND BLVD." CODESIGNATION SIGNS:
Ms. Cadwallader indicated that she had turned in the proceeds of last year's tour
to the Village Finance Department in the amount of $670:00 and gave Mr. Bittner the
receipt. Mr. Bittner will send a reminder to Mr. Benton along with this receipt and the
receipt for the monies given to the Village for the year before.
4. 2001 DESIGNATION DRIVE:
Mr. Bittner gave Ms. Blas and Ms. Collins the List of Historic Homes. Ms.
Collins will be going to Village Hall to look up the names of the new owners to
personalize the letter.
5. 2001 HISTORIC WALKING TOUR:
Ms. Temkin informed the Board that DHT had erroneously left the Miami Shores
Home and Garden Tour out of this year's Dade Heritage Days brochure. Since this
brochure is the tour's main source of advertisement, the general consensus among the
Board members was to cancel the tour for this year.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Bittner adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
