07-26-1999 Regular MeetingMIAMI SHORES VILLAGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MINUTES A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was held at Village Hall on Monday, July 26, 1999. The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Chairman Bittner with the following members present and absent: Present: Warren Bittner, Chairman Maria Temkin, Vice Chairperson Inez Hegedus -Garcia, Member John Bachay, Member Carolyne Cadwallader, Member Jaime Camacho, Member William Tenney, Member AGENDA ITEMS APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JULY 12,1999 iMr. Tenney moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded by Ms. Hegedus -Garcia and passed unanimously. PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS 1. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 61 N.E. 961 Street APPLICANT: Walter Michot Maintenance or Repair/Restoration: Proposal to replace existing s -tile roof with a new Altusa S -tile roof secured with adhesive foam, and utilizing galvanized metals for eave and valley details The applicant appeared in person. He advised that, since submitting his application, he had been in contact with several additional roofers. He indicated that no matter what tile he ultimately selected, whether S -tile or barrel tile, he would use copper eave metals. The Board strongly recommended Barrel Tile. Ms. Cadwallader moved to approve either the use of S -tile or Barrel tile, with copper eave metals. DISCUSSION - DESIGN CHARRETTE - REQUEST FOR PRESENTATION Ms. Hegedus -Garcia reported that Mr. Sergio Vasquez of the Design Charrette would like to keep history in mind and would like a presentation from the Board. Ms. Hegedus -Garcia volunteer to make the presentation, and the Board agreed.. 3. DISCUSSION - PLASTIC COVERS The Board agreed to use the remainder of the funds raised in the walking tour (less the amount necessary, i.e., $100.00, to frame the advertisement for 107 N.E. 96th Street for loan to Max Sturman) to buy plastic covers for the newspaper advertisements currently stored in the Archives. Additionally, Ms. Temkin agreed to search the advertisements for a second one featuring 107 NE 96th to lend to Mr. Sturman, but if a 2°d could not be found, to frame and lend him the one on display. A motion was made by Ms. Cadwallader, seconded by Ms. Hegedus -Garcia, and passed unanimously. 5. DISCUSSION - STATUS OF PUEBLO FELIZ BENCHES Mr. Bittner reported that he had been contacted by Pat Seppia of the Miami Shores Theater, who indicated that since the Theater had been awarded a huge State grant to remodel the Theater, the Theater wanted to get rid of the benches, which they felt didn't blend in well with the Art Deco ambiance of the Theater. Mr. Tenney agreed to investigate whether the counsel may wish to reconsider using them in the lobby of Village Hall, otherwise the Board agreed that they should be returned to the Community Church.
