HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
MINUTES
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was
held at Village Hall on Monday, August 17, 1998. The meeting was called to order at
7:30 p.m. by Chairman Bittner with the following members present and absent:

AGENDA ITEMS
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JUNE 30,1998

Ms. Hegedus -Garcia moved to approve the minutes as presented. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Tenney, and passed unanimously.
PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS
1. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
145 N.E. 94th Street
APPLICANTS: Fred L. Newman & Sharon K. Grosshart
Maintenance: Request for removal of oak tree
The applicants requested permission to remove a damaged oak tree from the rear
yard of the property. Ms. Hegedus -Garcia vouched for the qualifications of the certified
arborist who opined that the tree is dangerous and should be removed. Mr. Tenney
moved to approve the application. Ms. Hegedus -Garcia seconded the motion and it
passed unanimously.
2. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS

Rehabilitation: Request for installation of new French doors in garage.

The applicants explained that the old French doors built into one of two garage
door openings needed replacement. At the same time, the applicants wished to replace the
one existing garage door with a matching French door. After considerable discussion
concerning the design, materials and opening, Mr. Bittner moved to approve the
application without conditions. The motion was seconded by Mr. Tenney and passed by
majority vote with Ms. Hegedus -Garcia voting against the motion.
ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMENTS:
3. DISCUSSION - STATUS OF PUEBLO FELIZ BENCHES
Mr. Tenney reported that the Church had consented to lending the benches to the
Miami Shores Theater. The Board was of a consensus that they should be lent to the
Theater on a 3 month trial basis. Mr. Bittner made a point that Candy Rengstl must see
the benches first before they are transported. Finally, Mr. Bittner emphasized that the
Theater must understand that these benches are on loan only.
4. DISCUSSION - HISTORIC HOME BROCHURE
Mr. Tenney suggested that the Board devise a brochure of historic homes. Ms.
Hegedus -Garcia volunteered to assist Mr. Tenney with this project.
5. DISCUSSION - MODEL OF THE VILLAGE
Mr. Tenney suggested that the Board consider building a model of Miami Shores
Village. Limited discussion ensued.
6. DISCUSSION - STATUS OF DESIGNATION DRIVE
Mr. Bittner indicated he would give the list of properties and the logo to Ms.
Hegedus -Garcia by the next meeting so that she could proceed with the mail out.
ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Logan -Hynes moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:40 p.m., seconded by Mr.
Tenney, and passed unanimously.
