HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
June 20, 1988
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village. Historic Preservation Board
was held at the Miami Shores Village Hall, on`Monday, June 20, 1988 at 7:40 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Margo Newton, Chairman, with the following
members present: Margo Newton, Chairman
Hank D. Gaggstatter, Jr.
Marty Kern
Absent: Henry T. Courtney
Vivian D. Rodriguez
2. MINUTES - May 16, 1988
Ms. Newton called attention t. - the -last line on page 1 should read, 45 days.
Mr. Gaggstatter moved to approve the minutes as corrected, seconded by
Mrs. Kern, and passed unanimously.
3. PRESENTATION - LYNDA GRANT KILLINGSWORTH
Ms. Newton reported, she+had.-received a -calf late -.this afternoon from
Mrs. Killingsworth stating that she is unable to attend.this meeting, and
requested postponement. The item was tabled to the next meeting.
4. REQUEST FOR DESIGNATION AS A HISTORIC LANDMARK
352 N. E. 98th ST.
Na. Newton noted this is a request for designation :from .the .owners, Thomas
and Sandra Chaille, who have already signed the Covenant. They have been
very conscientious in following the Secretary. of Interior guidelines in the
restoration projects undertaken on the house.
Members received in their packet a Site Inventoryform on the property. The
significance and physical destription was reviewed. A brief discussion
followed concerning, if the house was built during the original Shoreland
Companys development of Miami Shores. Ms. Newton will check into. -the statement,
as written in the site significance.
Mr. Gaggstatter moved to recommend to Council forLandmarkDesignation,
seconded by Mrs. Kern, and passed unanimously. Ms. Newton stated it will be
on the Council agenda, Tuesday, June 21, 1988.
5. COM ENTS , REPORTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS
It was reported by Ms. Newton that) she and. Vivian: Rodriguez went to
Tallahassee on May 20th for the National Register Nomination proposal. This
was reviewed by. the Board, they were asked a -few questions, which they were
able to respond to very well. They did receive approval. Brief discussion
followed.

Also Ms. Newton reported that she had received a.cali.from Franklin Grau,
wherein he proposed that The Downtown Revital.ization.Board chairperson,
and she get together to. plan a reception for Frederiek.Von Longen, who
will buy out a lease and turn the Shores Theatre into a performing arts
center. She further stated that people will be invited;;to_the reception
who are interested in the fine arts. More information will follow.
Comments were made.regarding the sale of the Shoreview Building.
There. being no further business to some before -the Board,. the meeting adjourned
at 8:15 P.M.
