05-19-1997 Regular Meeting• MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MINUTES A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was held at Village Hall on Monday, May 19, 1997. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Bittner with the following members present and absent: Present: Warren Bittner, Chairman Maria Temkin, Vice Chairperson Elaine Franck Member John Bolton, Member Ines Hegedus -Garcia, Member Absent: Kimberly Logan -Hynes, Member Margarita Courtney, Member AGENDA ITEMS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. MINUTES - February 10,1997: Mr. Bolton moved to approve the minutes as amended. The motion was seconded by Ms. Franck, and passed unanimously. PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS 2. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 349 N.E. 93rd STREET OWNER: JOHN & SUZANNE BUCKI Restoration: Demolish existing cement barrel tile roof, including underlayments, and replace with new underlayments, covered by salvaged historic Cuban tile caps and Artizano"' clay barrel tile pans (of Colombian origin). Mr. Bucki explained that he needed to re -roof the whole house and that he intended to restore the original historic Cuban tile. He showed the Board a photograph showing the original Cuban tile installation. Mr. Arguelles then discussed in detail with the Board the proposed roofing job. Ms. Franck moved to approve the application with the following conditions: (1) the mixture of cap tiles will be at least 30% historic Cuban • • • Historic Preservation Board Regular Meeting May 19, 1997 Page 2 tile and not more than 70% Artizano°n tile; (2) all eve metals shall be copper, (3) double caps shall be used on the eave roof line. The motion was seconded by Mr. Bolton and passed unanimously. 3. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 10108 N.E. 1' AVENUE OWNER: WARREN BITTN.ER New Construction: Install outdoor garden patio retaining wall in rear yard constructed of ander block covered by series of salvaged historic cast cement decorative elements. Mr. Bittner passed the gavel to Ms. Temkin and filed Form 8B, which is attached to these minutes. Mr. Bittner explained the proposed project in detail. Ms. Franck moved to approve the application as submitted and Mr. Bolton seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. 4. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS 10108 N.E. 1a AVENUE OWNER: WARREN BITTNER Rehabilitation: Exterior modifications to original parte cochere (converted to kitchen in 1942) to accommodate future interior kitchen rehabilitation project. Mr. Bittnerexplained the proposed project in detail. Ms. Hegedus -Garcia moved to approve the application as submitted and Mr. Bolton seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. PUBLIC MEETING ITEMS: 5. DADE HERITAGE DAYS -MIAMI SHORES HISTORIC HOME & GARDEN TOUR Mr. Bittner summarized the Accounting and explained that the Board had made a profit of $1,370.00. The Board unanimously approved the Accounting as amended, which is attached to these minutes. CONSIDERATION OF CODESIGNATION OF VARIOUS STREETS HISTORICALLY COMPOSING "EAST DIXIE HIGHWAY" - REQUESTED BY COUNCILMAN CESAR SASTRE The . Board reviewed Councilman Sastre's memo to Mr. Bittner of March 10th suggesting that the Board consider the co -designation of the various streets historically composing "East Dixie Highway." Mr. Bittner showed the Board the 1925 Plat Book loaned to the Board by Councilman Sastre. After much interesting discussion, Ms. Temkin moved to recommend to the Village Council that various streets historically composing "East Dixie Highway" be so co -designated in the form of the draft resolution prepared by Mr. Bittner. Ms. Hegedus -Garcia seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 7. CONSIDERATION OF THE CODESIGNATION OF N.E. 103RD STREET TO ITS HISTORIC NAME, "BISCAYNE ROAD." Mr. Bittner again showed the Board the 1925 Plat Book loaned to the Board by Councilman Sastre. After much further interesting discussion, Ms. Franck moved to recommend to the Village Council that 103`" Street be co -designated as "Biscayne Road" in the form of the draft resolution prepared by Mr. Bittner. Ms. Hegedus -Garcia seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
