HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
MINUTES
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was
held at Village Hall on Tuesday, January 14, 1997. The meeting was called to order at
7:30 p.m. by Chairman Bittner with the following members present:

AGENDA ITEMS
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. MINUTES - NOVEMBER 25, 1996:
Ms. Logan -Hynes moved to approve the minutes as amended. The motion was
seconded by Ms. Franck, and passed unanimously.
PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS
2. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
273 N.E. 98Th STREET
OWNER: CHRISTINE MASTER and ORESTE SALUCCI
New Construction: Install air conditioning compressor unit in back
yard on the North side of main structure.
Ms. Master explained that the compressor would not be seen from the street. Ms.
Master showed the Board a site plan showing the proposed location of the compressor
unit. Ms. Frank moved to approve the application. The motion was seconded by Ms.
Courtney, and passed unanimously.
PUBLIC MEETING ITEMS:
3. UNITY DAY EVENT
Mr. Bittner and Ms. Frank indicated that they would be conducting the tours again
this year. The Mayor's Community Task Force had advised Mr. Bittner that the Board
could charge $1.00 per person and that it could keep all the proceeds from the tours.

4. DADE HERITAGE DAYS
The following course of action was agreed to: (a) Ms. Frank volunteered with the
assistance of Ms. Logan -Hynes to draft a proposed letter that will be sent to all owners of
Historic Homes; (b) Board members will begin calling recipients of the letters two weeks
thereafter. The event will be a home tour only, with the possibility of borrowing the
Village's tram to transport participants from one home to the next. The cost will be
$15.00 per person. Refreshments will be provided at one house. Ms. Temkin will reserve
May 10, 1997 from Dade Heritage Trust. The time will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
5. SALVAGED PUEBLO FELIX BENCH
Mr. Bittner advised the Board that, due to the vigilant eye of Ms. Temkin, he had
the opportunity to salvage one of the Pueblo Felix Benches from the Miami Shores
Community Church, with the consent of Rev. Kvetko. It was in bad condition. Mr.
Bittner had it fumigated for termites at Florida Guarantee Pest Control at a cost of $50.00.
Mr. Bittner will investigate the possibility of repairing the bench. All Board Members
were invited to visit Mr. Bittner's house to inspect the bench and give their opinions re
restoration. Mr. Bittner advised that the Village Manager had been contacted, and had
indicated that, if the bench were restored, the Village would be happy to display it in the
lobby of Village Hall. Notwithstanding any restoration efforts, the Board appointed a
subcommittee composed of Mr. Bittner, Mr. Bolton and Ms. Courtney to approach Rev.
Kvetko with the idea of having the Community Church donate two of the benches that
were in better condition to the Village.
