MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was
held at Village Hall on Monday, July 15, 1996. The meeting was called to order at
7:30 p.m. by Chairman Bittner with the following members present:

AGENDA ITEMS
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. MINUTES - MARCH 11, 1996: Ms. Logan -Hynes moved to approve the
minutes as amended. The motion was seconded by Ms. Franck, and passed
unanimously.
2. MINUTES - APRIL 24, 1996: Since the minutes from the April 24, 1996,
meeting had not yet been prepared, their consideration was deferred.
PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS
3. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
431 N.E. 94TH STREET
OWNER: ROSE TYLER
Rehabilitation: Replace 20 jalousie type windows on side and rear of
house with casement type windows.
Since neither the Owner, nor any representative, appeared before the Board the
item was deferred to the next meeting.
4. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
431 N.E. 94TH STREET
OWNER: ROSE TYLER
Rehabilitation: Install hurricane shutters.
Since neither the Owner, nor any representative, appeared before the Board the

5. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
339 N.E. 96TH STREET
OWNER: ROBERT & LISA ISRAEL
Restoration. Removal of concrete pads in front yard and courtyard.
Mr. Israel stated that he wished to restore the lawn in the front of the house,
which is presently composed of a large concrete pad. Ms. Logan -Hynes moved to
approve the application. The motion was seconded by Ms. Franck, and passed
unanimously.
6. APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
339 N.E. 96TH STREET
OWNER: ROBERT & LISA ISRAEL
Restoration: Replace mailbox with one more in keeping with style of
structure.
Mrs. Israel showed the Board members the proposed replacement mailbox. It
consisted of a metal, Spanish style, iron box, typically seen on the older homes in
Miami Shores. Ms. Frank moved to approve the application. The motion was
seconded by Ms. Logan -Hynes, and passed unanimously.
PUBLIC MEETING ITEMS:
7. DISCUSSION - DESIGNATION OF HISTORIC/SCENIC HIGHWAYS IN
MIAMI SHORES
Ms. Franck indicated that the possibility of historically designating Biscayne
Boulevard and N.E. 143rd Street near the Elementary School should be looked into.
Mr. Bittner volunteer to research how the City of Miami designates scenic highways
and report back to the Board with a proposal.
