HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD REGULAR MEETING
December 16, 1991
The regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation
Board was held at the Miami Shores Village Hall on Monday, December 16, 1991.
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 P,M, by Chairman, Mr. Gaggstatter
with the following members present;
H, D. Gaggstatter, Jr., Chairman
Maria T. Temkin
Warren von Bittner
Absent; Margarita Courtney
1. WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBER
Mr. von Bittner was welcomed as a new Board Member by Mr. Gaggstatter.
2. MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 16, 1991
The minutes of the meeting of September 16, 1991 were approved by
Maria Temkin, as she was the only Member left on the Board, who was present
at that meeting,
• 3. SELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON

Mr. von Bittner nominated Mr, Gaggstatter, seconded by Mrs. Temkin and
Mr. Gaggstatter was elected Chairman unanimously.
Mr. Gaggstatter explained he will not be here for the summer months and
explained the need, and described the duties of a vice chairman, Mr. von Bittner
volunterred for this job. He was elected unanimously,
4. CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS (PLAQUE FOR NATIONAL REGISTER)

Some discussion ensued on the size of this plaque, Mr, von Bittner wants to
order for his home. The plaque is anticipated to be about 10" X 15" and it is
expected to be placed just under the house numbers on the left -facing the house.
Mr. von Bittner gave Members a copy of a picture of the house showing approximate-
ly where the plaque will be placed. Also included a copy of`a letter he received
from Tulie Taylor, Historic Sites Specilist in Tallahassee. Mr. Gaggstatter
suggested the request be delayed for the attendance of a full board. Mr. von Bittner
had no objection, and further discussion was delayed.
5. REQUEST FOR NATIONAL REGISTER LISTING
70 N. E. 96th STREET OWNER: KEN LANGE
Members were not sure of :fhe_rules and:_fhe regulations concerning
Nomination to the National Register. The previous nominations were made as the
result of a Grant Study. The theme for the National Register was broad.
Mr. Lange will need to fill out a draft. Maria Temkin will do preliminary re-
search, and Mr. Gaggstatter will call to inform Mr. Lange of the process and
research.

6. DISCUSSION OF POSSIBLE STATE GRANT TO PUBLISH A PAMPHLET OF THE
ART DECO HSS.
Mr. Gaggstatter informed Members that if a Grant is to be applied for,
work must start now, Mrs, Temkin explained the procedure and stated the
preliminary research has been done, The brochure would make excellent ad-
vertising for Miami Shores and be a great benefit to real estate brokers.
It could also be a community education program, as well as general history of
Miami Shores. The cut off date could be. 1940 for Art Deco Homes. Mrs. Temkin
announced, Grants are given quarterly, so this is ongoing,
7. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR COMMENTS
Mr, Gaggstatter read from a letter he received from the Mayor requesting
a representative from the Board to serve on the Task Force, This meeting is
held at 8A.M., the first Wednesday of each month,
