HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD - REGULAR MEETING
August 19, 1991
The regular meeting of the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation
Board was held at the Miami Shores Village Hall on Monday, August 19, 1991.
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 P.M. by Chairman, Mr. Gaggstatter,
with the following members present:

Marty Kern
Julie Obermeyer
Maria T. Temkin
Absent: Margarita Courtney
1. MINUTES - May 20, 1991
A correction in spelling was called for under 2., line 4, word should be
driven. The minutes of the meeting of May 20, 1991 were approved, by a
motion made by Maria Temkin, seconded by Marty Kern and passed unanimously.
2. REPORT - STATUS OF APPLICATION FOR GRANT TO SURVEY ART DECO HOMES
The homes recommended for this Grant were already included on the
National. Register and therefore rejected for this Grant. Julie Obermeyer
passed out a copy of the notes for Fall 1991 Grant Application which she
had prepared. Members were very pleased with the presentation, work involved,
and the fine job she had done. It was suggested the Board might work under
the heading of Education and Publication. Since it is too late for this
category by September 1, it was agreed to withdraw at this time and reapply
for the next cycle. It was suggested that maybe a brochure could be developed
including a General History of Miami Shores and featuring Historic homes in
color photographs. Much discussion ensued concerning the brochure and
obtaining donated funds for the work. Julie Obermeyer moved to defer further
action to the next cycle. The motion was seconded by Marty Kern and passed
unanimously.
3. SELECTION OF A CHAIRPERSON PROTEMPORE
Mr. Gaggstatter explained, this is a temporary appointment of a chair-
person for the next 2 months while he does some traveling. Marty Kern
nominated Maria Temkin, seconded by Mrs. Obermeyer and passed unanimously.
4. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR COMMENTS
A. Mr. Gaggstatter explained that he had received a letter from
Mrs. Pedinelli requesting that their home be designated a Historic Landmark.
Mr. Gaggstatter called Mrs. Pedinelli and explained the procedure to her.
The address is 540 N. E. 96th Street. Members agreed the house is worthy of
designation, there are many fine features, and they would like to see it
designated.
Mrs. Kern made a motion to recommend the house to Council for designation,
the motion was seconded by Mrs. Temkin, and passed unanimously.

•B. Mr. Gaggstatter announced that Marty Rern"s term is coming up
for reappointment on the Board. She was given an application to send in.

C. The National Trust for Historic Preservation minutes of the
meeting of June 11, 1991 were introduced by Mr. Gaggstatter. He announced the
6th National Preservation Conferenee is scheduled for October 7-11, 1992,
Miami, Florida. Mr. Gaggstatter advised Members of the schedule of events
from October 1991, SanFrancisco Conference to October 1992 Miami Conference.
D. Maria Temkin commented she has minutes of the Dade Heritage
Trust. She receives all their information if Members are interested.
E. It was announced that Mrs. Temkin continues to have $2,200.
funds left in her care by the Shores Heritage Council. She needs direction
where to put it, or how it can be put to good use. It was suggested that an
informal gathering be held with those four people that contacted Maria Temkin
expressing an interest in helping with the proposed Christmas Tour.
