Shores Village Historic Preservation Board was held at the Maui Sh®resYillage.Ual1 on Monday, November 19, 1990. The meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman, lair, Gaggstatter,. with the following.bers present: H.: D. Gaggstatter, Jr., Chairman Margarita Courtney - Marty .Kern Julie Obermeyer Maria T. Temkin Mr. Gaggstatter welcomed Ji9lje Obermeyer, the new member of the Board, 1. MINUTES - August 20, 1990 Following .correction of the mminutes showing Margarita Courtney absent at the last meeting CAugust 20, 1990),. the minutes of the meeting of August 20, 1990 were approved by a motion made by Maxia Temkin, seconded by Marty Kern, and carried unanimously. 2. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN' Maria Temkin n©minated.Mr, Gaggstatter as Chairman, secondedby Marty:Kern, Nominations --were closed, and Mr. Gaggstatter was unanimously elected as Chairman. - 3. DISCUSSION - DESIGNATION OF SOME OF SMALLER HOUSES Maria Temkin reported_ that on November 1.3, 1990 she, Margarita Courtney, and Marty -Kern conducted a Windshield' Survey. of proposed historic homes located between N. E. 1st Ave and. N. E. 6th Ave,.from N. E, 91st•Street to N. E. 94th Street, The purpose to determine homes whieh::rmaybe.eligible for designation, Homes recommended for designation, at this time'are listed, and each Member of the Board received a copy. Mrs.. Temkin further suggested that, homes after 1929:not be included, also that Members drive by to assess significance of the list as much as. possible. Some homes are not significant enough for a plaque, but may have a known.Architech or some history. Some are .is a grouping, therefore.nominated, She further suggest- ed the owner of these 'properties ' be contacted and encouragedto;. seek historic designation., Another"drive by survey of smaller. homes will be. done and hopefully ready:by the next meeting_ of Monday, January 21, 1990. In discussion Mr, Gaggs.tatter.suggested, the most significant be obtained and nominated° for` designation. Julie Obermeyer mentioned, all homeowners be made aware of the pros and cons of designation, faller home owners may be concerned with the economics of designation. • • • HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD -2- November 19, 1990 4. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR CONNMNTS Mr. Gaggstatter had a letter indicating State. Grant money is available. for Art Deco homes. This Grant expires Decemb;ez 7, 1990, ..too late to comply for this year, Grants for Historic Preservation are something to keep in mind. Julie Obermeyer requested a copy of the Covenant for Historic Preservation for her home. She and herhusband will review it' and:make, a. determination about their home. Mr. Gaggstatter .aranoun.ced` Marty. Stofik had informed him that the Shores Heritage .Trust is now, defunct..(with the leaving. of Marty Stofik, Margo Newton, and Adea Colangelo), There remains $1,7.00.00 in their treasury. Mrs Stofik.`wanted to know how he..wished' to use these funds? She hopes that the Open House Tours would continue. It was.also suggeated that.a large portion of this money be donated to the Miami. Shores:Theatre of Performing Arts, a very worthy andneeded-eause. Nora Shaffer will include some of the .Historic .Miami, Shores hones in her tour of the Northeast area. There was some discussion on the owner of.Ma:rgo NewtonFs old house (10108 N. E, 1st Ave.) and the changes he anticipates. The meeting adjourned.at 8:15 P.M.
