HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD - REGULAR MEETING
November 19, 1990
The regular meeting of Miami. Shores Village Historic Preservation Board
was held at the Miami Shores Tillage Hall on Monday, November 19, 1990. The
meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman, Mr. Gaggstatter, with
the following members present:

Margarita Courtney
Marty. Kern
Julie Obermeyer
Maria T. -Temkin
Mr. Gaggstatter welcomed Julie Obermeyer, the never member of the Board.
1. MINUTES - August 20, 1990
Following correction of the minutes showing Margarita Courtney absent at
the last meeting (August 20, 1990), the minutes of the meeting of
August 20, 1990 were approved by a motion made by Maria Temkin, seconded
by Marty Kern, and carried unanimously.
410 2. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN

Maria Temkin nominated Mr. Gaggstatter as Chairman, seconded by Marty Kern.
Nominations were closed, -and Mr. Gaggstatter was unanimously elected as
Chairman.
3. DISCUSSION - DESIGNATION OF SOME OF SMALLER HOUSES
Maria Temkin reported that on November 13, 1990 she, Margarita Courtney,
and Marty Kern conducted a Windshield Survey of proposed historic homes
located between N. E. 1st Ave and N. E. 6th Ave, from N. E. 91st Street to
N. E. 94th Street. The purpose to determine homes which may be eligible
for designation. Homes recommended for designation, at this time are
listed, and each Mhuheriof the Board received a copy. Mrs. Temkin further
suggested -that, homes after 1929 not be included, also that Members drive
by to assess significance of the list as much as. possible. Some homes are
'not significant enough for a plaque, but may have a.known.Architech or some
History. Some are in. a grouping,.thereforenominated. She further suggest. -
ed the owner of these properties be contacted and eneougaged to.seek historic
designation.. Another drive by survey of smaller homes will be. done and
hopefully ready -by the next meeting. of Monday, January 21, 1990.
In discussion Mr. Gaggstatter.suggested,.the most significant be obtained
and nominated- fordesignation,• Julie Qhermeyer mentioned, all bormeowners
be made aware of the pros and cons of.designation. -Smaller home owners may
be concerned with the economiesof designation.

4. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR OaMMENTS
Mr. Gaggstatter had a letter indicating State Grant money is available. for
Art Deco homes. This Grant expires December 7, 199Q, too late to comply
for this year, Grants for Historic Preservation are something to keep in
mind.
Julie Obermeyer.requested a copy of the Covenant for Historic Preservation
for her home. She andher husband will review it'and make a determination
about their home.
Er. Gaggstatter.announced Marty Stofik had informed him that the Shores
Heritage Trust is now defunct,.(with the leaving of Marty Stofik, Margo
Newton, and Adea Colangelol. There. remains $1,700.00 in their treasury.
Mrs Stofik wanted to ,Snow how he._wished: to use these funds? She hopes that
the Open -House Tours would:.continue. It was also suggested that a large
portion,of this money•be•donated to:the Miami Shores Theatre of Performing
Arts, a very worthy and needed •cause.
Nora Shaffer will include some of the Historic Miami Shores homes in her
tour of the Northeast area.
There was some discussion on the owner of Marro Newtons old house
(10108 N. E, 1st Ave.) and the changes he anticipates.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
