01-18-1988 Regular Meeting• • • aiami Jhores9illage L O R I D A HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD January 18, 1988 A regiiLar meeting of the Miami Shores Historic:Preservation Board was held at the Miami Shores Village Hall, on Monday, Jana iyi18, 1988 at 7:30 P.M.. The meeting was called to order by Margo Newton, Chairman, with the following members present: Margo Newton, Chairman HankD'..' Gaggstatter, Jr. Marty Kern Vivian Rodriguez Absent; Henry T. Courtney 2. MINUTES - September 21, 1987 and November 16, 1987 Mr. Gaggstatter moved to approve, as written, the minutes~sof the meeting of September 21, 1987, seconded by Mrs Kern, and passed unanimously. Mrs. Rodriguez made .a motion to appLuae, as written, the- minutes..of the meeting of November 16, 1987, seconded by Mr. Gaggstatter, and passed. 3. REQUEST FOR DESIGNATION 152 N.E. 93rd ST. Margo Newton noted that this is a 1926 Mediterranean Revival house. Th Architect was Edwin G. Cobelli. Ms.Aoutlined the noteworthy features 0 Newton the home, further stating that it is one of the homes built as part of the Shoreland development of Miami Shores. Members viewed photographs,showing all the original windows and doors. Mrs. Rodriguez moved to recommend this house for Historic Designation., seconded by Mr. Gaggstatter, Mrs. Valerie Casuso the ownery.:was present. She advised that she had planted a date palm in the planters in front, also she found a lion's head in the basement which she will res:tbre and. put in front. Ms. Newton explained that recommendation will be discussed by Council at their meeting on Tuesday, February 2. She gave Ms. Casuso a copy of 'Answers to your questions' and a copy of the Covenant which she advised must.be signed and notarized. She further explained to Ms. Casuso that once the Covenant. is signed and approved by Council itis recorded with Dade County as a Historic Landmark. A plaque willb.e attached to the house, free of charge, indicating designation status. Ms. Casuso was also advised that should she wish to make changes ori -alterations must:be approved by the Historic Preservation Board through the -Certificate of Appropriateness. Approval is based on much research. Following further discussion regarding, the -name on plaque, the motion passed by unanimous vote. • • • HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD -2- 1/18/88 4. NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATION Ms. Newton reported that the Miami Shores Village Historic Preservation Board will receive $2.,500.00 total .reimbursement,::.the full amount of the Grant. Further she reported that all reports are in and the photos will be sent in this week. Members reviewed a. map drawing: with the:,designated homes- recommended for the National Register Thematic Group ,.colored in. It was agreed that much 'work went into this job, also the taking of all.pho,tographs,a..major undertaking by.Mr. Gaggstatter. Margo thanked everyone for all work and efforts toward this nomination.work. 5. She also called attention to an article from the Miami News outlining the restoration work being done on the Shoreland Building -part-of °.the Shoreland Arcade in downtown. Miami. She_also handed out copies of the article by Beth Dunlop,. Herald Architecture Critic, which appeared in the Miami Herald,. Sunday,.January.l7, 1988. This s was a very informative article which -mentioned the book, " Resourceful Rehab: A Guide for, Historic Buildings in Dade County",_ edited by Ivan Rodriguez, Historic Preservation Division director. Margo requested that the Secretary ask Mr. LuBien to. order•.-"A',Handbook.on Historic Preserva.tion.Law", which was. outlined and recommended in the Florida Preservation News,.November/December, 1987. Cost of -the book will be $30.00 (paperback) (plus $2.00,for postage and handling)...Order will be sent to:- Lydia Anderson (NC), The Conversation Foundation, 1250 24th.Street, N. W., Washington, D. C. 20037. Vivian Rodriguez commented that she attended Beach. :There was.good coverage, many people worthwhile. This was followed by discussion the.Art ,Deco ,Weekend on 'Miami and.the,,whole weekend very on restoration on Miami Beach* There being no .further business, the.meeting adjourned.at 8:15 P.M.. The meeting„reconvened, so that Mrs.. Rodriguez could make a motion that, Ms. Newton, Chairman, address a letter of support to the Planning & Zoning Board and acknowledge their invitation to attend their meeting of 1/28/88.
