HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
September 21, 1987
A regular meeting of the Miami Shores Historic Preservation Board
was held en Monday,. September 21, 1987,7:30.P.M... The meeting was called
to order by Margo Newton,. Chairman, with the following members present:

Hank>,D. Gaggstatter
Marty Kern
Vivian D. Rodriguez
Absent: Henry T. Courtney
Marty Kern was welcomed by the Chairman, as a new Member of the Board.
3. MINUTES - August 17, 1987
It was requested the following changes be made to the minutes:
A. #4, Paragraph 2, Mr. .& Mrs. Pena contact Dade County
Historic Preservation Office.
B. #5, Paragraph 1, Delete the last sentence.
Mrs. Rodriguez moved to approve the_minutes, as amended, seconded by
Mr. Gaggstatter, and passed unanimously.
• 4. LANDMARK DESIGNATION. REQUEST -389 N. E. 99th St.

In response to question from Mrs. Rodriguez, Na. Newton noted the owners
are aware of the Covenant, however it has not yet, been signed. The windows
are boarded up because -the owners were away for three weeks. Mrs. Rodriguez
further inquired concerning the general -future plans for the house.
Ms. Newton and Maria Temkin stated thatthe house appears in an old article,
as one of the first 30 houses built by the Shoreland Co.
Maria Temkin responded to another query that, Yes they were approved for
inclusion in Thematic Nomination.
Mrs. Rodriguez moved to designate the house, secondedby Mr. Gaggstatter,
and passed unanimously.
5. NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATION
Maria Temkin presented an update. She visited the.Spear4Tarris residence,
and found much research documentation. Included were a book on the history
of the Shoreland Ca., old photos, and press clippings.
Mrs. Rodriguez inquired as to our project deadlines, and Mrs. Temkin reported
we should aim to finish:research by the end of October and type in November.
A Workshop. was scheduled for the following Saturday 4t 9:00 A.M. at the
Village Hall to continue research.

6. COMMENTS; REPORTS , ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ms. Newton reported that the National Trust Meeting, will be held. on
October 7-11 in Washington, D. C.
Dade Heritage Trust is having a Membership meeting this coming Wednesday
at,Kampong, all are urged to attend.
Mrs. Rodriguez had spoken to Ivan Rodriguez, who agreed to conduct a
workshop for the. Board.
A Workshop meeting instead`.bf;a regular board meeting Will be held in
October. Date will be announced.
Mr. Gaggstatter moved to adjourn the Meeting, seconded by Mrs. Rodriguez,
and passed unanimously.
